Conductor

The Winds of Wisconsin ensemble currently is led by conductor Scott Teeple.

Scott Teeple

Scott Teeple joins the School of Music faculty as associate professor beginning with the 2007-08 academic year. During 2006-07, he was in Madison on a leave of absence as director of bands at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. He conducts the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Contemporary Chamber Ensemble and teaches conducting. Under his direction, the UW-SP Bands toured and performed across the state of Wisconsin, including the Wisconsin State Music Educator's Conference in Madison. The ensembles premiered numerous compositions; participated in national consortia; and were active participants in commissioning new works for wind band (most recently commissioning Richard Danielpour and Marianne Ploger). Mr. Teeple has initiated a student composers' competition and has initiated programs to support music educators in public and private schools.

Before coming to Wisconsin, Mr. Teeple was the assistant director of bands at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor. Prior to Ann Arbor, Mr. Teeple's public school experience was as instrumental music educator at Port Huron Northern High School where he conducted the concert, marching and jazz bands and taught a music appreciation course. Mr. Teeple has also served on the faculty at St. Clair County Community College and has taught low brass for the All-State program at Interlochen.

He continues to be in demand as a clinician and guest conductor throughout the United States. Along with his regular duties, he has served as guest clinician at the Conn-Selmer University summer program for music educators and continues to serve as a guest conductor/clinician throughout the United States. As a conductor, he has participated in numerous conducting clinics across the country, most recently in the Pierre Boulez Workshop at Carnegie Hall. He has served on the executive board of the Wisconsin Music Educators' Association (North-Central Vice President) and on the Arts Alliance of Portage County.

Mr. Teeple received his B.M. in music education and M. M. in conducting from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the College Band Director's National Association, the Music Educator's National Conference, and the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles. Mr. Teeple has won numerous honors and awards, including the William D.
