Training is tailored to the needs of your organization. I employ a facilitative style and experiential approach to teaching. "Practical, realistic, and useful" are characteristics that describe my teaching, trainings, and other projects.
Elementary, middle and high school teachers, school nurses, youth service workers, HIV/AIDS prevention specialists, public health nurses, and other human service professionals.
Narra Smith Cox, PhD, CHES, is a professor in the Department of Professional Development and Applied Studies at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. In this position she develops and implements outreach activities and continuing education programs for school- and community-based health educators, teachers, and health and human services professionals. She serves as a consultant to the Wisconsin AIDS/HIV Program, working closely with the Statewide HIV Prevention Community Planning Council and serves as Director of the Wisconsin HIV Prevention Training System. Her research focuses on HIV prevention needs and strategies for various populations of Wisconsin residents, including sexual minority youth; she also conducts research on continuing professional development for educators and prevention specialists.
Dr. Cox earned her PhD in Urban and Regional Science, with a focus on health planning, from Texas A&M University. She holds a Master's Degree in Teaching from Northwestern University and an A.B. in Latin American Studies from Vassar College.
The Department of Professional Development & Applied Studies is a part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Continuing Studies. The units within Continuing Studies provide continuing education programs for lifelong learners, from precollege to seniors, as well as counseling services for adult learners.
