Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a person-centered, directive method of communication that enhances a person's motivation to change by exploring and resolving ambivalence. The original application of MI was in working with persons with substance use disorders. Now, there are outcome studies showing the effectiveness of MI with myriad lifestyle changes ranging from increasing medication compliance to following a diabetic diet.
This workshop is for people who want to understand the theory behind MI including the how and why of lifestyle or behavior changes. Participants will leave with a clear understanding of MI and what it can do for their patients/clients and agency.
Objectives:
This workshop is for people who want to become skilled in the specifics of applying motivational interviewing in their practice.
Objectives:
This is a highly experiential workshop for professionals who have completed basic MI training. Advance your learning and your skill level in MI techniques with a variety of clients.
Objectives:

She trains and monitors the clinical practice of over 20 health educators who deliver services for the Wisconsin Screening Brief Intervention Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) project, Wisconsin Initiative to Promote Healthy Lifestyles (WIPHL).
Scott Caldwell, MA, has trained professionals working with youth in health care, schools, juvenile justice, and human services. Scott currently conducts alcohol/drug screening, assessment, brief intervention (University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics), and outpatient treatment (Connections Counseling) with adolescents and their caregivers.
