Have you ever been involved in a confrontation with an angry or aggressive person that left you feeling disoriented, inadequately prepared, and plain scared? Then this program is for you.
Managing Threatening Confrontations will help you learn how to effectively support clients and others who could experience the full range of behavioral escalation. These moments often appear chaotic; it's hard to know when to talk, when to step back, who to call for back up, and "when to duck."
This seminar is designed to put order to the chaos. Stages of escalation are described and each stage is paired with a positive action plan for caregivers as well as teams. Emphasis is placed on proactive supports. Principles are taught in a straightforward manner. They will provide a framework for readily translating escalating behavior into positive plans of action. The learning is brought to life using a video of a dramatic, real-life enactment of threatening confrontations by professional actors.

For those of you who have already taken MTC I or some other introductory crisis prevention seminar, this is what you've wanted in a follow-up seminar.
Paul White, MA, has personally tested the information and skills that he will present. Paul has first-hand experience and will share what he's learned in a practical, down-to-earth style. For seven years he was a counselor/program director of a residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed and developmentally disabled adolescents. He is presently on staff at UW-Madison's Waisman Center. Paul is an experienced and engaging trainer who will make this lively and participatory training one of the best you've ever attended.
"Paul is engaging, and gives great real-life examples from his extensive knowledge base in this area. The program was extremely well organized. sequential and easy to follow with adequate time to assimilate information presented. He used a great combination of techniques for learning and the handouts to take back to other staff are very much appreciated." ~Mary Fiore, Elder Care of Wisconsin, Madison
