A program of online instruction designed to meet the development needs of
administrators in today's human services environment. This continuing education
program has been designed by professionals to prepare you for the challenges
of a career in human services administration.
Often, human services administrators assume management roles without formal training for their new responsibilities. Professional development is therefore vital to successful performance and continued growth. The Human Services Administration Program Series is designed by experienced administrators to help you fill this need. This program will enable you to plan, implement, and advocate effective future-oriented client services and will help you move from management to creative leadership in an increasingly complex field.

Although online, you will actively participate with instructors and colleagues in analyzing problems and exploring creative options to guide your development.
Current and prospective managers committed to improving/increasing their knowledge and practice in human service administration and leadership.
Participating as a learner in computer-mediated distance education requires you to be motivated, self-directed, and comfortable using the computer, e-mail, and the Internet. You also need to be comfortable reading and engaging ideas mentally as a critical thinker analyzing a problem, reflecting on different aspects of the problem, and weighing the pluses and minuses of several options for solution to the problem. The learning environment is dependent on students posting comments to a discussion area on the course site; this is known as asynchronous discussion. Participants in this form of computer-mediated learning read and comment on the topic under discussion at their leisure (as opposed to synchronous discussion or real-time chat). As a learner you are responsible for logging on to the course web-site regularly and for contributing to the learning process by posting your thoughts and ideas to the online discussion. Textual communication can be viewed as an equalizer between the very verbal students and the quiet, less active students found in every face-to-face classroom. It can prompt all of us to be more thoughtful about what we say online and thus add to the quality of sharing and learning.
Our purpose is two fold. First, we strive to offer the highest quality programs for human services administrators. Our second purpose is to offer an increasingly wide variety of Web-based courses on the Internet designed to meet the continuing education needs of human services personnel. The Internet provides a means of meeting these needs that fits today's busy professional and personal life styles. You are assured of high quality, interactive courses that bring you together with colleagues from around the country and instructors dedicated to helping you increase your knowledge and skill in the delivery of human service programs.
We looked around the nation and found few programs addressing the education and training needs of administrators in the human services field. We conducted a survey of human services professionals in order to tailor the program to actual needs. What we learned about the need for this program is reported in A Study of Continuing Education Needs for Human Services Administration. This is why we are offering the Human Services Administration Programs. And, the Web-based aspect of these programs meets another professional need: excellent training any time, at home or in the office.
There are other reasons we believe the Human Services Administration Program can be of value to you whether you are new in administration or already have experience. These include changes brought about by welfare reform, budget reductions and downsizing of government programs, contracting for services, the growth in managed care, and the move to for-profit delivery systems. While education and training in human services administration has been scarce, the economic, social and political environment today creates a greater demand than ever.
Our curriculum development team has designed the Human Services Administration Program in the firm belief that it will enable you to achieve your personal learning objectives and find the flexibility and diversity of content to meet your needs. During this program you'll be engaged on the computer as a Web-based learner, actively involved with instructors and fellow participants, in positions similar to yours, at times that meet the demands of busy professionals.
In order to interact with us in the Web-based courses on the Internet, you must have adequate capability in terms of hardware, software and connectivity. Whether you will be participating at home or your office, check the details of your system. You will need the following
