Health Education

The Community and School Health Education Program provides training, technical assistance and materials development for individuals and organizations involved in the processes of health education and health promotion. Our educational programs are designed for individuals working in a variety of settings including:

  • schools
  • community-based organizations
  • health and human service agencies
  • government

These are behavioral science-based trainings in the areas of comprehensive school health programs, adolescent sexuality education, HIV/AIDS prevention, program evaluation and community planning.

LGBT Health Disparities: What could make this population less vulnerable?

Many gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender adults and youth experience environments detrimental to their health. This workshop reviews what is known about social conditions and health, and provides you with ideas, actions, skills and enthusiasm to reduce LGBT health disparities.

You will gain increased understanding of:

  • Health disparities data
  • Links between social conditions and health risks
  • Persistence of anti-gay discrimination
  • Interpersonal, institutional, and societal interventions that hold promise

Instructor: Gary Hollander, PhD, is a psychologist and educator, as well as founder and executive director of Diverse & Resilient, a Milwaukee-based agency supporting the healthy development of LGBT people.

Fee: $120 (Partial scholarship support is available for staff from agencies currently funded by the State of Wisconsin AIDS/HIV Program.)

We occasionally offer self-study courses related to HIV prevention for school staff. Details will be posted here when available.

Wisconsin HIV/AIDS Training System: Courses developed in partnership between the Department of Professional Development and Applied Studies and Wisconsin AIDS/HIV Program. Designed for prevention and care service providers, program managers, local public health providers, HIV case managers, Wisconsin HIV Community Planning Network members, and others committed to HIV/AIDS prevention and care. Wisconsin HIV Community Planning Network: A partnership between the Wisconsin AIDS/HIV Program and UW-Madison, this network assists communities and the Wisconsin Division of Public Health (DPH) in developing, implementing, and prioritizing HIV prevention and care services in Wisconsin.
