Welcome to the Wisconsin Certified Public Manager Program.

The Wisconsin Certified Public Manager Program (CPM) is a nationally-accredited management development certificate program specifically for managers in federal, state and local government and in tribal and non-profit organizations. The program prepares you for the challenges and unique demands of the public management profession.

Individual CPM classes are open to all, you do not need to be a candidate in the certificate program to attend.

The Certified Public Manager Program is committed to:

  • Contributing to the professional development of Wisconsin’s public sector employees;
  • Sharing the educational resources of the University of Wisconsin System;
  • Strengthening the capacities of Wisconsin’s state, county, and municipal governments to carry out their responsibilities; and
  • Serving as the knowledgeable and well-informed voice in Wisconsin on all matters relating to in service public sector training and education.

Core values of the Wisconsin Certified Public Manager Program:

  • Human beings are valuable, and organizations’ most important resource.
  • Human beings want to be productive.
  • Organizations can support human productive activities.
  • Management is an important activity in supporting human productivity and achieving organizational outcomes.
  • The management of public organizations is no better or worse, or more or less difficult, than that of private organizations, but it is different.
  • The individual public manager can make a difference.
  • Public management is a high calling.

Why should you enroll in Wisconsin CPM courses?

  • To enhance your administrative, technical, analytical, management and communication skills.
  • To obtain the training necessary for effective management.

Governor Doyle proclaims June 4, 2010 Certified Public Manager Day

In honor of the 20th Anniversary of the Wisconsin Certified Public Manager® Program, Governor Jim Doyle proclaimed June 4, 2010, “Certified Public Manager Day” throughout the state.

The 20th anniversary celebration recognized the 475 Wisconsin state and local government managers who have graduated from the Wisconsin CPM program since its inception at UW-Madison Continuing Studies in 1990. CPM instructors, graduates, staff, advisory board members, current candidates, and friends of the program celebrated all that is good about Wisconsin state and local government.
