Adolescence is a time of complex biological, social, and cognitive development. During this life stage, young people engage in behaviors that can affect healthy development. These physical, neurological and psychological changes are often experienced differently by males and females.
This workshop provides valuable information for professionals who work with youth. You’ll learn from experts on the latest research, and build skills in the areas of prevention, intervention and treatment from a gender-sensitive perspective.

Cynthia B. Torppa, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Marshall University. She graduated from The Ohio State University with an undergraduate degree in Psychology, and MA and PhD degrees from the Department of Communication with a specialization in marital and family dynamics. Dr. Torppa has authored or co-authored more than 25 journal publications. Her primary academic specialization is family communication. She teaches and conducts research in the area of youth development, organizational communication and health communication. Dr. Torppa has received numerous awards, including The Ohio State University Department of Communication Walter B. Emery Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Service, The University of Delaware Continuing Education Award for Excellence in Teaching Adults, The National Association of Community Development Extension Professionals National Excellence in Community Development Programming Award, and multiple awards for research and programming from The National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.
Fees: $159. $139/person when three or more people from the same organization attend. Fee includes instruction, materials, CEUs, meals, and nonrefundable $20 administrative fee.
Continuing Education Credits: .6 CEUs (6 credit hours) will be awarded for attending the workshop. UW-Madison Continuing Studies is an approved CEU provider.
Time: Registration opens at 7:30 am. Workshop runs 8:30 am -3:45 pm. Continental breakfast and lunch are included.
