Outreach Program Manager

Not everyone who teaches at the University of Wisconsin is a member of the faculty. In fact, many of the outreach programs of the Department of Professional Development and Applied Studies are taught by academic staff and community-based partners. Rick Brooks and his colleagues teach, offer technical assistance, develop innovative projects in response to community opportunities, and facilitate collaborative programs.

Their role in the Wisconsin Idea is to provide “in reach”—help off-campus people and programs find resources here at the University—as well as outreach by applying expertise and experience across disciplines as well as cultural and socioeconomic divides.
Co-founder of the Community Food and Gardening Network, Dane Buy Local and Little Free Library, he has served on boards ranging from the Dane County TimeBank to Wisconsin Partners for SustainAbility, WI Positive Youth Development and Envest Microfinance.  He often provides keynote presentations and workshops at state, national and international conferences.
