The University of Wisconsin-Madison, Department of Professional Development and Applied Studies (PDAS) provides the Approved Assessor Training for the Intoxicated Driver Program (IDP) for the State of Wisconsin. This is a state mandated training (HFS 62)— all Intoxicated Driver Program assessors and supervisors are required to satisfactorily complete Part I and Part II of the IDP training.
Check out the attached letter from Greg Levenick, Supervisor, Substance Abuse and Contracts Section, Wisconsin Bureau of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (levenga@dhfs.state.wi.us or 608-266-1987) for more information about HFS 62 and required training.
When registering for the IDP Training, participants must submit the following documentation (i.e. copies of CEUs, certificates, transcripts, etc.) verifying completion of the training prerequisites:
Please note: participants must satisfactorily complete a self-study component before attending a two-day in person training.
Part I of the IDP training is a self-study component that must be satisfactorily completed before participating in Part II of the training. Registered participants can access the required training manual and video of a “mock assessment” from an online learning site. A print version of the manual can be purchased for an additional $35.00, and/or a DVD version of the training video is available for an additional $15.00. Self-study requirements include reviewing the training manual, viewing the training video, and using the video taped “mock” assessment to prepare an appropriate Drivers Safety Plan using the following forms: MV 3649, MV 3633, and MV 3634 (forms included in the self-study online and print manual). Completing the self-study component takes an estimated 12 hours. The completed self-study assignment must be submitted at least one week prior to attendance at Part II of the assessor training (the reviewed “Drivers Safety Plans” are an essential part of workshop discussion).
Part II of the training is a two-day in-person workshop. This face-to-face session reviews the training manual including questions that may have arisen during the self-study (Part I); discusses satisfactory completion of all IDP forms (MV 3649, MV 3633, and MV 3634) and the criteria for using the WAID tool (Wisconsin Assessment of the Impaired Driver); and culminates with a final exam. This exam includes watching a second video interview of a “mock” assessment, recording criteria identified using the WAID, and satisfactorily completing the following forms: MV 3634 and MV 3633. The final exam must be completed with at least 70% accuracy before a participant will be awarded the IDP-AT Certificate, as well as the CEUs from UW-Madison.
