The Interprofessional
Conference
on Geriatric PsychiatryWe invite you to the first interprofessional conference on Geriatric Psychiatry. This conference represents a joint effort to bring mental health colleagues together to better understand care management needs of older adults.
Expert faculty in geriatric psychiatry who will present the latest evidence based information on the challenges of late-life mental illness. We look forward to seeing you December 2 at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
The Archives of Psychiatry, 1999 consensus statement provides alarming statistics relative to geriatric psychiatry and disorders. Nationwide, approximately 20% of the population 65 and over has a mental health problem and/or disorder. In 2030 it is projected that around 30% of the U.S. population 65 years and older will have a mental disorder. Currently, there are only 29 geriatric psychiatrists in the state of Wisconsin and approximately 8,500 nationwide; there are only 6,500 geriatric social workers nationwide with an estimated need of 64,000 by the year 2030.
While evidence-based research in geriatric mental disorders now provides us with the data and effective methods to assess and treat older adults, few professionals have had the opportunity to study best-practice approaches and are unfamiliar with the unique etiology and symptoms of late-life psychiatric disorders and problems.
To better address these issues, this cutting-edge conference offers you expert didactic, case-study, and role play information. Join us for a highly engaging learning experience on late-life mental disorders across professions where you will be able to learn in a collaborative educational environment.
