Spoleto Festival USA
Join the University of Wisconsin for a weekend of world class performances. If you've never been to Spoleto Festival USA in Charleston, South Carolina, you really don't know what you're missing. One of the most important performing arts festivals in all of North America, its reputation for offering extraordinary work by the best artists in the world is well-deserved. As always, we will attend a cross-section of the festival's offerings for one of the most interesting weekends of performance that you can find anywhere.
This year's package includes the play Major Bang by The Foundry Theatre, two morning chamber music concerts, a dance performance by the extraordinary Shen Wei Dance Arts, and the opera Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny! In addition to these performances, your educational package includes a city history seminar as well as a guided city tour. In your free time you can visit important sites in early American and Civil War history, The Gibbes Museum, over 150 art galleries, beautiful old churches, the Charleston Market, and more. Stroll amongst some of the finest early American architecture and dine in some of the best restaurants in the country.
You will enjoy a "History of Charleston" lecture on your first day at the festival; and there is a 90-minute guided city tour on Friday morning.
From world class performing arts to American history, this trip has it all. Join us as we visit the beautiful and historic city of Charleston, South Carolina for southern hospitality and the performing arts at their finest!
