Recommended Attire:  We recommend flat or low-heeled comfortable shoes (leather or soft soles) and comfortable clothing suitable for floor movement/exercise for movement and relaxation classes. Shower facilities are available at the school; bring your own towel and personal supplies.

Creating a Joyful Journal (C3)- This class is full

Whether you are a lifelong journal writer or a beginner, this class is for you. The world of journal writing is fascinating and full of different ways to record joys, challenges, insights, life highlights, spiritual yearnings, and other experiences that are worth committing to paper. During the week we will explore a variety of techniques with a focus on creating a balanced joyful journal. Various styles of journal keeping will be provided.

Instructor Bio:
Darlene Cole has been teaching journal writing at The Clearing in Door County for 21 years. She has also taught in various enrichment programs at Concordia University, Mount Mary, West Bend's Family Center, and community organizations. She worked 36 years in public schools both as a music teacher and counselor. She loves to share her passion for journal writing - helping students to create journals that will enrich their life.

 

Communicating Creatively (E4)

Skill Level: Beginners and intermediates

Wouldn’t it be great to discuss your art and personal creativity with ease, in real time and space with others who don’t seem like you? Spend five days learning how to open up and expand your creative communication potential, engaging them in exercises, role playing and ample opportunities to comfortably discuss your art and how you see yourself. Materials Fee: $4.

Instructor Bio:
Stephen Kleiman is the Director of The Center for Creativity Though Awareness, a Chicago-based organization which gives seminars in communication and the arts. Mr. Kleiman has enjoyed a multifaceted career as a chef, food service entrepreneur, food consultant, food writer, culinary instructor, classical musician and lecturer on Personality Profiles and Communication.

 

Exploring Mandalas Through Drawing and Writing (A3)- This class is no longer available.

Discover methods in which the mandala (Sanskrit word for circle) may be used as a personal symbol for balance and harmony. Each session will begin with a guided-imagery meditation followed by time to reflect and write in a journal. Students will explore various drawing exercises in order to connect healing images and unleash creativity.

Instructor Bio:
Diana Randolph (BA, Northland College), a professional artist for 29 years, has displayed her landscape paintings nationally. She teaches art workshops, writes poetry and fiction, and has had many instructional articles published by the Daniel Smith Artist Materials company. Her landscapes are in the online gallery at www.portalwisconsin.org and at four galleries in northern Wisconsin.

 

Keeping A Visual Journal (F4)

Visual journaling is the art of self-discovery: through image-making your truest feelings are revealed; through writing those feelings are interpreted. Come and explore how going beyond words can enrich your relationship with yourself and others, unleash creativity and find deeper meaning in life. This class includes body-centered awareness, guided meditation, expressive image-making and journaling.

Instructor Bio:
Elizabeth Lewis is an artist, writer, arts educator, and certified stress-management consultant. Her fiber art works have been exhibited nationally. A motivational speaker, she travels nationally and internationally presenting lectures and workshops on healing art, healing writing, and stress management.

Morning Reflections

7:15 – 8 am Monday - Friday

Begin your day with time devoted to reflecting on your hopes and dreams. In a relaxed, supportive environment, students will be guided through exercises to clear our minds and open our creative selves to express and accept the what the day will bring. There will be time for writing, listening to music, walking, and introspection.

Sunrise Yoga

7:15-8 am Monday-Friday

Start your day with entry level yoga to open your mind and free your body. This class is loosely structured to allow participants to go at their own pace in a safe setting.

Instructor Bio:
Elizabeth Chandler Patric is a certified RYT 500 yoga instructor with over 30 years of experience. Her teaching style combines an eclectic blend of carefully intuited yoga poses, sublime meditations and colorful visualizations based on ancient tantric practices that enhance body, mind and spirit. Her area of expertise is teaching others how yoga and meditation enhance creativity.

 

Yoga & Creativity (B6)

This workshop explores how yoga and meditation practice enhances creative flow. Students will learn ways of unblocking energy so that creativity flows like a river of inspiration and spontaneity. Our investigations will include gentle yoga, colorful tantric visualizations, sublime meditations, journaling and sharing. Please bring a yoga mat and notebook. Wear loose clothing and bring a soft pillow if needed.

Your Life is a Work of Art (E10)

The life you create is a work of art; the colors, forms and textures you choose to fill-in your canvas is up to you. Come and enjoy a week where "should" and "shouldn't" don't exist, freeing you to envision the life you truly want and how to get it. Using writing, drawing and more, you'll create a personal vision statement, a roadmap to your future.
