Exploring Mandalas (A6)

with Diana Randolph
Skill Level: All
8:30-11:30 am
Come and discover the art of the mandala (the Sanskrit - ancient Hindu language of India - word for circle, representing an outward expression of your inner self) using various drawing and writing exercises.  Each day will begin with guided imagery meditation leading into class activities that help you reflect on various aspects of your life including healing images that express joy, unleash creativity and maintain balance.  The image of the labyrinth will also be examined, discussed and expressed. Creating within a circle is a means of accessing personal and universal symbology which provides mirrors for our lives. Mandalas have calming, relaxing effects on the mind and body thus focusing and strengthening the will to heal.  The founder of Jungian psychology, Carl Jung, often used mandalas for personal transformation.  He said, " The mandala corresponds to the microcosmic nature of the psyche..."

Yoga and Creativity (C30)

with Elizabeth Chandler
Skill Level: All
10:15-11:45 am
This workshop endeavors to show participants how a yoga practice can enhance creative flow.  Energetic blocks can correspond to artistic blocks and as we learn how to unblock energy, creativity flows like a river of inspiration and spontaneity.  Our explorations will include an investigation of the seven main "chakras" or energy vortices and we will learn how each of the chakras function in the creation of a work of art. Each day we will practice easy yoga postures that unblock and "amp up" the energies of specific chakras, building upon our knowledge day by day so that by the end of the week, your awareness of how yoga can be utilized for creative endeavors will be more finely tuned.  Bring a yoga mat, light blanket, a small pillow, journaling materials and a playful sense of curiosity.  (Beginners are welcome; however you will need to be able to lie comfortably on your back on the floor.)
