Professional development opportunities for music professionals are offered throughout the year in an exciting array of workshops, educational travel experiences, correspondence and online study, and educational videotapes for the classroom and studio.

This workshop provides the opportunity for music teachers and conductors of vocal and instrumental ensembles to participate in a substantial professional development experience focusing on music of the Medieval, Renaissance, and early Baroque periods. Participants in the workshop will have the opportunity to work with guest artists-in-residence in historically informed performances of early works, and to hear world-class performances of early music. The Festival features seven concerts with world-class artists. The 2008 festival features Handel's Journey: From Germany to England via Italy. Travel with Madison Early Music Festival directors in a study program exploring the region of the 2007 Festival focus - The Low Countries. Based in Amsterdam, Bruges, and Brussels, enjoy music concerts and visits to museums, churches, and historical instrument collections – and plenty of free time to explore at your own pace. World-class faculty will guide participants through private lessons, master classes, pedagogy seminars, panel discussions, ensemble playing, and body awareness classes. Two tracks are offered: performers will attend June 1-13; studio cello teachers may choose to attend one or two weeks (June 1-7 and/or June 7-13). This workshop addresses a variety of critical issues and provides enriching experiences for teachers of piano. Guest clinicians will share expertise and experience in sessions designed for studio and class piano teachers who wish to creatively solve problems and explore new dimensions and literature. This workshop for conductors and teachers offers a comprehensive approach to teaching and enhancing musicianship through band. In addition to substantial podium time and conducting technique coaching with Scott Teeple and guest conductors Kevin Geraldi and John Rafoth, special sessions on rehearsal strategies, repertoire selection, and enhancing ensemble sections are addressed by UW-Madison faculty Teryl Dobbs, Michael Leckrone, Mark Hetzler, and Marc Vallon, and guest clinicians Kevin Geraldi and John Rafoth. This workshop provides the opportunity for interdisciplinary hands-on arts learning experiences at multi-skill levels in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. A variety of classes may be chosen from extensive offerings in the visual arts, creative writing, dance/movement, music, photography, theatre/drama, and folk arts. This two-week program is designed for in-service and pre-service teachers, and features a flexible individualized study format so that participants may pursue a curriculum that will meet their particular teaching and professional development needs. Sponsored by the National String Workshop, these intensive four-day clinics provide hands-on experiences for those interested in learning more about string instrument repair. Participants work on their own projects under the guidance of skilled repair specialists. Four tracks: Basic/Beginning Repair, Intermediate/Advanced Repair (both for violin, viola, cello, bass), Bow Repair, and Fretted Instrument Repair. MUSIC OF THE WORLD for Music Educators
This course is designed as an introduction to music of the world, including music of Native America, Africa, Black America, Peasant Cultures of Eastern Europe, India, Asia and Indonesia, Japan, and Latin America. Specially designed assignments challenge the music educator to explore ways to incorporate multicultural activities and projects into the music curriculum, and features a self-designed student field project. The course is available throughout the year, can start anytime, and can progress at an individual pace. Celtic Music: Regional Cultures and Modern Success
Join this online course to learn about the musicians, the cultures, and the
history of the music fueling the Celtic trend. A wide range of readings and
listening assignments take you on a colorful and thought-provoking tour through
the whole range of Celtic music. The course offers opportunities for the teacher
to explore interdisciplinary aspect of music, literature, culture,
