Driftless Baroque in Musica Maxima series: Concert of Buxtehude trio sonatas and J. S. Bach Gamba Sonatas no. 2 and 3

A newly formed ensemble of early-music experts for the Madison-Beloit-Chicago area, DRIFTLESS BAROQUE will perform four trio sonatas by Buxtehude and viola da gambas Sonatas nos. 2 and 3 of J. S. Bach. Eric Miller (Madison) is the gambist for all of these; baroque violinist, Jacob Hansen (Chicago), baroque cellist, Anton TenWolde (Madison) and Max H. Yount (Beloit), harpsichordist, complete the ensemble.

Early Music Now: Piffaro, King's Noyse, Ellen Hargis

"New Waves in Ferrara: Two Bands, Fresh Sounds" Two of EMN's long-time favorites, the wind band Piffaro and the early music string ensemble King's Noyse, are joined by soprano Ellen Hargis in an insightful exploration of the music and cultural life of Ferrara, one of the great centers of the courtly arts in Renaissance Italy.  Silent Auction and Chocolate Reception at 3:00 p.m.  www.piffaro.com

Early Music Now: Calmus Ensemble Leipzig and Quartet New Generation

St. Joseph Chapel, 1501 S. Layton Blvd., Milwaukee, WI

"Blaze of Glory: Early Music Now" New to EMN:  Two recent winners of the Concert Artists Guild International Competition.  The five voices of Calmus Ensemble Leipzig join with the recorder collective QNG: Quartet New Generation in an exploration of music much of which was written to honor Holy Roman Emperors, Kings, and Popes.  Lecture at 4:00 p.m.  Reception and preview of the 26th season at intermission.  www.calmus.de/en, www.quartetnewgeneration.de/en
