programs in Spanish language, Spanish literature, Spanish culture,
Spanish civilization, Spanish business, and traveling through Latino

Enjoy yourself and learn Spanish in the Madison area in an informal
and relaxed atmosphere. For details of upcoming classes browse
the languages page of the UW-Madison Continuing Studies
catalog. Course titles usually include:
| Beginning 1 |
This course focuses on introducing students
to Spanish while helping them feel comfortable with the
language through greetings and simple conversational phrases
for use around town, practice with asking questions, talking
about everyday activities, the use of descriptions, and
locations, as well as needs and likes. |
| Beginning 2 |
Beyond the initial introduction to Spanish,
this course is geared for those who may have studied, or
already have a basic grasp of beginning Spanish and would
like to review the use of talking about everyday activities,
events going on right now and plans for the future, as well
as activities from the past. In addition, this class delves
into giving commands and instructions and furthers conversation
skills. |
| Intermediate |
This course builds on the student’s previous
Spanish knowledge and discusses present, current, future,
and past activities so that the student may continue to
build confidence in speaking. |
| Advanced |
This course places particular emphasis on
discussing possibilities and opinions while further developing
students’ vocabulary and use of tenses. Those who need instruction
and practice on a high level continue learning to converse
in various social and cultural situations. Review grammar
and writing skills and read sections from Hispanic culture. |
| Spanish review |
If after taking all the previous language classes you want to refresh your Spanish skills before starting to work with Latinos, traveling to a Spanish-speaking country, and/or moving south, this concentrated language course is for you. We focus on grammar, conversation, and culture. Develop your oral and written proficiency and significantly incrase your fluency. |
Spanish for Youth
INSTRUCTOR: Nereida Lavaire (BA, University of Honduras) is native
Spanish speaker from Honduras. She has a degree in Elementary school
education, with a vast experienc teaching spanish with methods that
makes learning easier and enjoyable. In addition to her teaching
background she also holds a denistry degree.

Ages 4-8 |
Children who have not taken Spanish begin
to learn the language through songs, games, pictures and
short conversations. |
| Intermediate,
Ages 5-10 |
Children who have taken Spanish continue to
learn the language through conversations, songs, games,
pictures, practice exercises and short readings. Does not
repeat material learned in Spanish Beginning. |

Business Spanish Certificate Program
Basic Level |
The Online Business Spanish Certificate Program
offers a flexible learning opportunity for understanding
business relationships in Latin America and Spain. This
Spanish language course is focused on speaking Spanish specifically
in a business context, as well as using appropriate Spanish
business etiquette. |
Business Spanish Certificate Program
Advanced Level |
Learning how to conduct business in Hispanic
countries can be very helpful to any student or professional
interested in the Spanish language and in the various cultures
of the Hispanic world. The possibility to take the course
online further benefits people who need to follow their
own learning needs due to distance or time constraints.
Although students can work independently, they are closely
supervised by the instructor. You work at your own pace
and can take up to a year to finish this course. |
| Doing Business in the Latino World |
Enhance your knowledge of the business world
and the Spanish language, focusing on the Latino business
environment. If you need a flexible schedule, this individualized
course lets you learn and study at your own pace, using
some of the most sophisticated technology for learning business
Spanish. |

Your Instructors
Dr.
Alonso, a native of Spain, teaches women's studies
at UW-Madison. She has a PhD and an MA in anthropology and
a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Madrid.
Saylín
Álvarez (PhD candidate) is a graduate of the
University of Havana, where she was a journalist with the
prestigious Cuban institution Casa de las Americas. She currently
teaches Spanish at UW-Madison.
Arsenio Cicero (PhD
candidate) is a native of Cuba, an experienced Spanish instructor,
and a PhD candidate in film and Latin American literature
in the Dept. of Spanish and Portuguese at UW-Madison.
Magdalena
Coll-Palombi, born in Barcelona, speaks Catalan and
Spanish. She teaches at Edgewood College, MATC, and UW-Madison,
and loves to communicate with her students.
Desirée Díaz
(PhD candidate) is a native of Havana, where she was a celebrated
journalist and critic. She currently teaches Spanish at UW-Madison.
Antonio
Noguera (PhD in Spanish, UW-Madison) is from Madrid,
where he managed his own company for many years. He has taught
language and culture courses at UW-Madison, Edgewood College,
and Minnesota State University.
