Description

woman sitting next to her paintingFor over 35 years, painters have gathered at beautiful Green Lake, Wisconsin, for a week of painting and instruction. The Green Lake Conference Center is a perfect place to enjoy nature while learning new skills and developing others in the medium of your choice. Join other painters in hands-on workshops, critiques and demonstrations on realistic painting techniques under the guidance of experienced artist instructors.

The Green Lake Conference Center was developed by Mrs. Victor Lawson of Chicago in 1888 as a refuge from the pressures and harried life of the city. Since 1943, the American Baptist Assembly has welcomed people to this site of recreation and Participant at workrenewal.

The painting studio is in the Lakeview Room in the lower level of Pillsbury Hall overlooking Green Lake. Participants staying at the Green Lake Conference Center have two lodging options: staying in a conference hotel or in a manor house setting with other participants. Optional buffet-style meals are available for purchase and are served in the Kraft Centre cafeteria near Pillsbury hall; manor houses have kitchen facilities.

Studio Painting at Green Lake has been a University of Wisconsin program for over 35 years. Each fall and spring brings a new studio painting workshop taught by our experienced instructors.

Student comments

Valerie Weihman-Rock"This was a remarkable experience. Everything contributed to it: the location, facility, instructors and fellow students plus the wonderful help from the advanced students. Don't know how it can be repeated!"
—Kate Krupinski, Studio Painting participant

"When I feel stuck in my own endeavors I find art classes helpful to push me further than I was ever willing to go or to back away where appropriate. I took the class to get some further real knowledge about painting and to have an opportunity to paint with other artists in a studio setting."
—Beth Simmons, Studio Painting participant

"The watercolor presentations were well-planned, the directions were easy to follow, the illustrations were extremely helpful and the hands-on follow up was very effective. I have never learned so much in such a short time, and I didn't feel pressured."
—Ginny Schuld, Studio Painting participant

“I had never experienced solid time in which to paint. Eight to ten hours a day for four days! In a perfect environment! I had time to explore possibilities, to think about them and then do them. I got to see how other people work. Got to know the people in the group."
—Laura Smail, Studio Painting participant
