Child care

Office of Child Care and Family Resources (OCCFR) can respond to questions about campus child care programs, parent resources, back-up/sick care programs and financial assistance to help pay for your child care costs. 608-890-0436, occfr@provost.wisc.edu, 611 Eagle Heights, Room 148.

Disability resources

McBurney Disability Resource Center works with students, staff, and faculty to develop disability-related services, including alternative testing, notetakers, interpreters, materials (Brailled, electronic, or audiotaped), counseling and training, information, and referrals. 608-263-2741 (TTY 263-6393), fax 265-2998, mcburney@odos.wisc.edu, 1305 Linden Dr, 1st floor.

Financial assistance

Health

University Health Services (UHS) includes services provided by nurses, physicians, psychologists, prevention specialists, and other health-care professionals. 608-265-5600, (TTY 608-265-3300), 1552 University Ave.

Counseling and Consultation Services (CCS) provides individual and group counseling on personal and other issues, crisis intervention, and alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse services. There may be a nominal fee for tests and materials. 608-265-5600 (TTY 608-265-3300), 333 East Campus Mall

On-campus

Division of University Housing offers summer housing options for students enrolled in summer courses. 608-262-2522, assignmentoffice@housing.wisc.edu.

Off-campus

Visitor & Information Programs (VIP) provides housing links including overnight lodging and private residence halls near campus. “Search the Listing” helps you find a roommate, as well as the type of accommodations you need. 608-263-2400, askbucky@redgym.wisc.edu, 716 Langdon Street, 1st Floor Red Gym.

Leisure, arts, and recreation

UW-Madison’s Arboretum maintains the oldest and most varied collection of restored ecological communities in the world. Join us for tours, classes, and volunteer opportunities. 608-263-7888, info@uwarboretum.org, 1207 Seminole Hwy.

Chazen Museum of Art presents 10-15 exhibitions each year and displays highlights from the permanent collection of more than 17,000 works. Free admission. 608-263-2246, 800 University Ave.

Memorial Union features theaters, an art gallery, outdoor rentals, a craft shop/darkroom and a recreational club. 608-265-3000, 800 Langdon St.

Student Newspapers are published throughout the academic year. The Badger Herald andThe Daily Cardinal are both online and in print. The Student Newslink through University Communications is another resource.

Recreational Sports are available at several locations on campus. Services at each location vary and are included in student fees. One must be an enrolled undergraduate, graduate or special student (not auditor) to use these facilities. info@recsports.wisc.edu.

Libraries

UW-Madison Libraries There are more than 40 libraries across campus, with more than 650 databases containing hundreds of millions of citations. 608-262-3193.

List server for returning adult students

This list provides an electronic forum for UW-Madison returning adult students to get acquainted, exchange information (on parking, financial aid, where to study, etc.), provide peer support, and help you in the transition to the campus environment. Parking and transportation

Bus Pass is free to University Special students (not guest auditors) for all Madison Metro buses for the term in which the student is enrolled. 

UW Transportation Services can provide maps, suggestions for parking and alternatives to driving to campus, information about enforcements, etc. 608-263-6667.

Campus Bus routes 80 and 85 are free and travel to most campus locations. A map and schedule are available online.

Police and security

University Police Department provides police services and a 911 communications center, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Non-emergency telephone 262-2957; 1429 Monroe St.

SAFEwalk provides walking escorts to campus areas, 8 pm-1 am; A UW ID is required. 608-262-5000. SAFEride provides cab service within a two-mile radius of campus, 10:30 pm-3 am. A UW ID is required. 608-262-5000.

Technology services

Division of Information Technology (DoIT) coordinates computer, networking, telephone, video and other technology services at UW-Madison. The Help Desk is open 24 hours: 264-4357 (HELP). Walk-in Help Desk, 1210 W. Dayton St, is open Monday-Friday, 7:45 am-5 pm.
