2005 Madison Business & Professional Women
Scholarship Information

Who we are:

Members of Business & Professional Women (BPW) are affiliated with the most powerful organization of working women in the country, Business & Professional Women/USA. Business & Professional Women began some 80 years ago, and has worked on behalf of all women to achieve equity in the workplace. Madison BPW is affiliated with the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc. (BPW/USA), as well as the Wisconsin Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc. (BPW/WI).

Our mission

The mission of Business & Professional Women is to achieve equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education and information. To promote workplace equity, Business & Professional Women of Madison award scholarships to students pursing higher education in Dane County. Completed applications must be postmarked by February 28, 2005. Oral interviews will be held in March and recipients will be announced in late March. A BPW dinner program recognizing recipients will be held on April 19, 2005. Scholarships of $1,000 or more will be awarded per recipient, for the fall 2005 semester.

Requirements

Applicants must:

  1. Have a record of academic performance balanced with community involvement, non-academic interests, and experiences;
  2. Be accepted by a technical college, trade school, or university located in Dane County;
  3. Be attending school Fall Semester 2005 at the above institution;
  4. Be pursuing additional education to enter a career, for career advancement, or for career change;
  5. Have demonstrated the ability to overcome challenges, and;
  6. Demonstrate financial need.

Application process

  1. Fill out the attached application form.
  2. Provide 2 letters of recommendation from non-relatives.
  3. Answer short essay questions on a separate typed sheet and return with the completed application form. Include first and last name on each page of submitted application.
  4. Include transcripts of high school and post-secondary courses completed through December 2004.
  5. Return the completed applications, essays, letters of reference and transcripts in one package, postmarked by February 28, 2005, to:

  6. Please keep copies of all materials submitted.

The Business & Professional Women of Madison will determine scholarship awards. Madison Business and Professional Women will make the final determination on the qualifications of grant recipients.
