About this online career workshop
Are you ready for a career change but don’t know where to begin? Whether you feel stuck or bored in your career, UW-Madison Division of Continuing Studies’ Adult and Student Services Center can help you navigate a career change—from a computer anywhere, through this online workshop!
In this workshop we offer tools to inventory your skills and interests, set goals, make decisions, and network, as well as a unique opportunity to:
- keep on track in your journey to a new career by identifying specific goals each week
- use a holistic approach to identify the best career possibilities for you
- better articulate and communicate your transferable skills
- identify your interests and work values
- receive ongoing guidance and assistance from a career counselor, including online live discussions
- communicate directly with a counselor via phone or e-mail
- interact with peers who can support you in changing careers
Who should take this workshop?
You will benefit from this online workshop if you:
- want to change your working life and need some help with the change
- need the flexible schedule an online program provides
Workshop expectations
Most people spend more time researching a new car purchase than they spend researching their career options. Your success in this workshop depends on your willingness to complete assignments and participate in the activities. Participation with your fellow students and with the facilitator will enable you to get the maximum benefit from this workshop.
Plan to schedule two to four hours a week, at your convenience, to complete course activities—a small investment in your future!

Workshop structure
This workshop runs for seven weeks. About one week prior to the start of your class, you will be sent readings by e-mail. Each week you will have access to new content covering topics such as: interest, skill, and values identification; goal setting; time management; networking; motivation; and decision making.
Live discussions are available online on Tuesdays from noon-12:30 pm and 8-8:30 pm Central Time.
Facilitator

Katia Albright is a counselor for community adults interested in changing careers or returning to school. As a certified Career Development Facilitator, Katia enjoys helping clients with career-development skills such as identifying values, skills, and interests. She is certified to administer and interpret the Strong Interest Inventory and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Katia has led workshops in career development, career transition, and employability skills, and has worked in various aspects of student affairs for more than 10 years. She currently serves on the UW-Madison Student Personnel Association executive board and she is also a member of the Wisconsin Career Development Association. As a career changer herself, Katia is familiar with many of the issues facing career changers. Prior to returning to school and earning a master’s degree in adult and higher education, she was a college biology and chemistry instructor. Katia also holds a master’s degree in chemistry.

About the Adult and Student Services Center
UW-Madison’s Adult and Student Services Center provides educational and career assistance to alumni and to members of the Madison-area community. We offer career and educational workshops and outreach programs, and we serve as the admissions office for Special and Guest students.

Fee for this seven-week workshop is $149. The course is not available for university credit.

Miscellaneous: Casual and comfortable dress is appropriate. Be prepared for fluctuating temperatures in the meeting room. A sweater or jacket may be desirable.
