Why Attend the Summer Music Clinic?

You can join other high school music students and improve your skills for a week of creative skill-building and performances in band, orchestra, choir, musical theater and jazz ensemble. Concert groups rehearse throughout the week and your family and friends can attend your performance at the final concerts. Classes are designed to help you polish your ensemble and individual performance skills with a range of music-related topics and techniques. You also enjoy well-organized recreation and evening activities to round out an exciting and dynamic camp experience.

Highly Qualified Staff

You will learn from teachers who are chosen for their talent and excellence as music educators. The staff includes specialists for every instrument and voice so that you gain knowledge on topics such as basic performance technique, tone production and warm-ups. Non-performance classes offer a variety of choices.

Residence Hall Living and Supervision

All residential students are required to live in UW-Madison campus residence halls throughout the week. The rooms are air-conditioned and have small refrigerators.

College-age counselors supervise the Summer Music Clinic participants in the residence halls and help design the daily recreation that includes athletics, crafts and social activities. Evening concerts are a mix of guest performing artists, student and faculty recitals.

Health staff members stay in the dorms, with additional medical attention provided through the University Health services clinic as necessary. Campers are encouraged to have their own health insurance where possible, as UW-Madison is only able to provide limited accident insurance.

Students are matched by grade for dorm assignments. Campers develop new friends as a natural extension of the Music Clinic residence and learning experience. Caring counselors and daily floor meetings make this an easier process. If a camper has a request for a specific roommate, please include this on this application. Both roommates must make this request and both requests must be received by the application deadline to honor your preference.

Commuter Option for Junior Session Music Clinic rehearsals and classes begin at 8 AM and finish by 4:30 pm. The commmuter fee includes tuition, lunch, and a camp T-shirt.
