YOUR GIFT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
GIVING TO DCS

Wisconsin Idea Public Presentation

Your gift will help support ongoing series of free Contemporary Issues Forums, Summer Forums, and Windows on the World Forums where faculty from across campus bring their expertise to bear in the arts, humanities, and sciences. Recent semester-long community discussions have included Understanding the Islamic World; What is Patriotism?, Ethics in Business and Government; The Promises and Perils of Advances in the Biological Sciences and Stem Cell Research; The Creative Process in the Sciences, Arts and Humanities; Looking into Island Southeast Asia; and Family Science Fun Nights. Through this fund the Division has allowed UW faculty and staff to share the latest research and reveal its practical application to statewide audiences in libraries, community and technical colleges, business auditoriums, and other public places. We have also helped to develop new programs with the Center for Humanities, the Wisconsin Film Festival, the Arts Institute, Science House, the Center for Biology Education, and the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters.

Wisconsin Idea Strategic Initiative

Your support can help us take faculty and staff expertise and knowledge off campus to address critical societal issues. Quick Response Grants, supported through this fund, provide research-based expertise to state agencies, educational institutions and the private sector. Recent efforts include: helping state industries develop economic clusters of research, manufacturing and marketing for the printing industry; developing a turf-grass management program to control weeds while reducing the use of pesticides and fertilizers in city parks, schoolyards and golf courses; and helping to develop information management systems for county governments to better provide Web-based materials to constituents. Program Development Grants also foster new programs such as: a space science K-12 educational effort, a summer studies and Web-based Master of Science in Professional Education for teachers, and the development of the Center for the Study of Upper Midwestern Cultures.
