B

Andrew Balkin (MFA, UW-Madison), is a nationally recognized master-printer, artist, and publisher, who has taughtetching for more than 25 years. His work appears at the National Museum of Art—Smithsonian Institution and elsewhere.

Baroque Band is ensemble-in-residence at the Music Institute of Chicago. Founded and directed by British baroque violinist Garry Clark, the ensemble creates performances “that composers and musicians of the baroque era would have understood.”

Linda Bartley, professor of clarinet at UW-Madison and clarinetist in the Wingra Woodwind Quintet, has been featured internationally as a soloist, recitalist, and clinician.

Cheryl Bensman-Rowe performs widely as a soloist and is a member of the internationally acclaimed Steve Reich and Musicians and a Grammy Award winner. Formerly she performed with the Waverly Consort and the Western Wind Vocal Ensemble.

Chelcy Bowles is professor of music at UW-Madison, where she directs and teaches classes for adult music learners and directs professional development programs for music teachers and professionals, the Madison Early Music Festival, and UW arts travel/study programs.

Kay Brathol-Hostvet (BFA, UW-Stout) has taught art for five years. In her first year of making art, her landscapes won Wisconsin Regional Art Program awards.

Scott Carter (PhD student in ethnomusicology, UW-Madison) is researching the ties between jazz and other aspects of American culture. He per- forms in samba and gamelan groups.

Suzanna Waters Castillo (PhD) directs and teaches programs on aging and long-term care in the Dept. of Professional Development and Applied Studies.

Sharad Chandarana (PhD, UW-Madison) teaches mathematics at UW-Madison and directs the distance education program in mathematics and sciences.

Arsenio Cicero (PhD candidate, Spanish and Portuguese, UW-Madison) is a native of Cuba and an experienced Spanish instructor.

Marshall J. Cook is a writing coach, freelance writer, nonfiction book and novel author, and editor of the newsletter Creativity Connection.

Georgia Corner has been a soloist with the Erick Hawkins Dance Company and a founder of the Wellspring Project and has danced with Douglas Dunn and Dancers, Dura Mater, Lise Brenner, and Beverly Brown.

Rich Corzatt (BA, Ripon College), a full-time designer in Madison and a member of Chicago’s Palette and Chisel Club, devotes himself to advancing as a figurative oil painter.

Don Coyhis is a member of the Mohican Nation, founder and president of White Bison, Inc., and an author and speaker who energizes people to act on behalf of their own wellness.

Lori Curtis is the city administrator in Reedsburg, Wis.

D

D. Francis Dieringer began ballroom dancing in college and hasn’t stopped since. He is teacher and co-owner of the Art of Dance Studio in Madison.

Christine DeSmet is a novelist, member of Writers Guild of America, fellowship graduate of the Warner Bros. TV Sitcom Workshop, member of the Wisconsin Screenwriters Forum, and an award-winning screenwriter. She has optioned a script with New Line Cinema.

Stella Dobbins (MA, Univ. of Houston), an artist and art historian, exhibits nationwide and is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society.

Teryl Dobbs, assistant professor of music education at UW-Madison, has nearly two decades’ experience teaching band, choral, and general music. She served in the United States Air Force Academy Band as co-principal flute.

Timothy Eddy is a distinguished recitalist, orchestral soloist, chamber musician, and recording artist. He teaches at the Juilliard School and Mannes College and is cellist of the Orion String Quartet.

Bruce Esplin (MA, Utah State Univ.) is a PhD student at UW-Madison in modern Chinese literature.

Susan Farmer-Tiefenthaler, professor emeritus in the Division of Continuing Studies, has taught drawing and painting to all ages and led arts-education workshops. She teaches studio courses via distance learning.

Boris Frank is president of Boris Frank Associates, a Madison-based firm specializing in services for nonprofit organizations nationwide.

G

Kevin Geraldi is associate director of bands at Univ. of North Carolina–Greensboro, where he conducts the Symphonic Band, the Casella Sinfonietta chamber ensemble, and the Wind Ensemble chamber music program, and teaches conducting.

Kathy Germann (MA) operates a consulting and training business that specializes in community building, conflict resolution, and cultural sensitivity.

Sage Goellner (PhD, UW-Madison) is a French instructor and faculty associate at UW-Madison.

Edna Golandsky is a piano pedagogue internationally renowned for her expertise in solving technical problems and in diagnosing and treating of performance-related medical problems and injuries. She heads the Golandsky Institute, which is dedicated to advancing the Taubman Approach.

Joe Goveas (MD) is a faculty member with the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Kecia Doyle Greene received her Pilates certification through Turquoise Mountain Institute. She teaches for Fitness Balance and Pinnacle Fitness.

Vida Groman (MS) operates a therapy practice and a consulting business focusing on team building, communication skills, diversity, and Personal Thinking Patterns.

Heidi Hakseth, an enthusiast of Irish music and dance, has taught Irish dances to adults for more than 10 years.

Jamie Henke (PhD in music theory) is a pianist and vocalist, and a faculty associate in music at UW-Madison. She teaches music theory for non-music majors in the School of Music and via distance education.

Mark Hetzler, assistant professor of trombone at UW-Madison and member of the Wisconsin Brass Quintet and Empire Brass Quintet, performs widely as a recitalist and soloist.

Kathy Hiteman, a Herb Kohl Fellowship Award-winning middle school teacher, has directed more than 35 productions and is the education administrator for American Players Theatre.

Howdy S. Holmes is president and CEO of Chelsea Milling Company, a family-owned business since the late 1800’s.

Timothy Howell (PhD), a geropsychiatrist and assistant professor at UW Medical School, has extensive clinical experience with older adults and is on staff at the Madison VA Hospital.

I

Mary Ann Inman (BFA, UW-Whitewater) is a member of the Midwest Watercolor Society and is president of the Wisconsin Regional Artists Association. She has taught workshops in watercolor, matting, and framing.

J

Denise Jess, an educational consultant, specializes in community building, conflict transformation, diversity issues, multicultural education, and curriculum writing and design.

Jessica Johnson is assistant professor and director of graduate piano pedagogy at UW-Madison. An active performer and clinician, she frequently commissions and programs contemporary works and performs with the piano/percussion duo Sole Nero.

Hans Jørgen Jensen is professor of cello at Northwestern University, Meadowmount School of Music, and The National Arts Centre. He has received numerous teaching awards and pub- lished several books on cello teaching.

Nabil Khawla (MA, Univ. of Oklahoma), an associate lecturer in the Dept. of French and Italian, is completing a dissertation on Lebanese literature in French. He has taught elementary, intermediate, and advanced French.

Jeff Kirsch (PhD, UW-Madison) has taught at Tulane University and UW-Madison. He has authored three published novels, many Independent Learning courses in Spanish and Portuguese, and the textbook Spanish for Reading Knowledge.

Belin N Lavaire (BA, Univ. of Honduras), a native Spanish speaker, has a degree in elementary education and vast experience teaching Spanish with methods that make learning easy and enjoyable.

Michael Leckrone, director of bands and marching bands at UW-Madison, is a popular clinician, guest conductor, and adjudicator. He has published hundreds of band arrangements and compositions and two texts for band directors.

Laurence Lesser, president emeritus of New England Conservatory, teaches an international class of highly gifted cellists and serves on the jury of international competitions.

Betsy Liotus is executive director of the Benedictine Life Foundation, Holy Wisdom Monastery, Middleton. Previously she was development director for the School of Business at the UW-Madison Foundation.

Jacqueline C Lopes, a native of Brazil, is a teacher, tutor, and translator in Portuguese and Spanish. She has many years of university teaching experience.

Corissa Lotta (PhD, Ariz. St. University), assistant faculty associate in the Dept. of Counseling Psychology, specializes in gifted children and has clinical experience with gifted children and adolescents and their families.

Lorene Ludy has taught kundalini yoga since 1986. She has trained in polarity therapy, spiritual direction and chaplaincy.

M

Nancy Macgregor (BFA, Layton School of Art, Milwaukee) worked in advertising art and TV production in Chicago, then opened her own studio. She has taught various media and mounted art exhibitions for students and herself.

Pablo Mahave-Veglia, cellist, is a professor at Grand Valley State University (Mich.). A graduate of UW-Madison, Indiana University, and the Eastman School of Music, he is an active soloist and performer.

Frank Martinelli has 36 years’ experience with nonprofit and public-sector organizations. President of the Center for Public Skills Training, he specializes in strategic planning, board development, volunteer management, and community partnerships.

Jean Matos (MFA, UW-Madison) taught art in Madison and in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She now runs her own alternative press, Low End Pubs.

Gerry Max (PhD) has taught business communication at Concordia College and writing at Lakeland College. He writes on literature, history, and travel for individuals, institutions, corporations, news magazines, and journals.

David Mays (MD, PhD) formerly forensic clinical director at Mendota Mental Health Institute, serves on the clinical faculty at UW-Madison and the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Miranda McClenaghan (MFA in acting, MA in directing) is director of theatre education in the Division of Continuing Studies.

Doug Meske, a psychotherapist, specia-lizes in couples and family therapy and presents workshops throughout the U.S. on building relationships, taking care of emotional needs, and treatment issues.

Kimberly Miller (PhD, German linguistics, UW-Madison) has taught German at UW-Madison since 1999.
Michael Paul Miller (MFA, UW-Madison) has experience producing realist and landscape paintings. He offers his students numerous beneficial ways to resolve pictorial problems.

Joan Mills (MS, UW-Madison) is a dance specialist who has been named Wis. Dance Educator of the Year by the National Dance Association.

Chuck Mitchell (MFA, UW-Madison) supervises scene-studio activities for the Dept. of Theatre and Drama, where he teaches stage craft and scenery automation.

Mary Moran is recognized for applying the Taubman Approach to piano pedagogy to children’s study. She performs frequently as a soloist, a duo pianist, and a collaborative pianist, and lectures internationally.

Judith Moss has taught modern dance at New York University, Temple University, and Swarthmore College. She has danced with noted New York companies and received numerous awards for choreography.

Newberry Consort, one of the world’s premier early music ensembles, develops programs from original manuscript sources in the Newberry Library. Members include David Douglass (violin/viola da gamba), Ellen Hargis (soprano), and David Schrader (harpsichord).

Robert Newton, a Celtic instrumentalist and scholar, currently performs with the Madison-based ensembles West Wind and Public House Ceili Band.

Antonio Noguera (PhD in Spanish, UW-Madison) managed his own company for many years in his native Madrid. He has taught Spanish at UW-Madison, Edgewood College, and Minnesota State University.

Paul Novak (PhD, UW-Madison) has studied yoga and hard and soft martial arts for many years.

O

Nicole Nigon O’Connor (master’s in occupational safety and health, UW-Whitewater) has worked in both the private and public sector for nearly nine years. She is currently an industrial hygienist with the Madison office of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

P

Susan Paddock, professor of governmental affairs in the Dept. of Professional Development and Applied Studies, administers the Wisconsin Certified Public Manager Program.

Jane Peck, a specialist in dance history, has researched, choreographed, and performed dance across the U.S., Canada, and France. She is highly regarded as an educator, and has taught in numerous schools and residencies, and publishes widely in academic journals.

Donna Peckett (BA in art history), producing artistic director of TAPIT/new works, is a tap dancer, actor, teacher, award-winning choreographer, and specialist in creative dance and drama for young children.

Gail Petersen (PhD) is an educator and vice president of Elder Advocates, Inc., and a consultant and trainer.

Kim Petersen (MD) is a geriatrician and president of Elder Advocates, Inc., and a consultant and trainer.

Andrew J Petto (PhD) is a biological anthropologist with the UW-Milwaukee Dept. of Biological Sciences. For 30 years he has worked to improve learning and teaching in the life sciences, especially in understanding biological evolution, investigation, and communication.

Kimberly Chance Price (PhD, UC-Berkeley) has expertise in research, evaluation, and clinical counseling. She served as a research fellow with the National Institute on Aging, National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health, and National Institute of Mental Health.

Q

Quicksilver, a dynamic baroque ensemble of world-renowned string and vocal performers, includes Aaron Sheehan (tenor), Robert Mealy and Julie Andrijeski (violin), David Douglass (viola), and David Morris (cello).

John Rafoth is a former music teacher, band director, and department chair at Madison West High School, where he initiated a school-wide music/literature/theater/art festival showcasing student works and performances.

Tony Rajer (BA, UW-Madison; additional art-conservation studies at Harvard, the Sorbonne, and Univ of London) is a recent Fulbright professor to Panama and former State Capitol art conservator.

Paul Rowe, professor of voice at UW-Madison and former member of the Waverly Consort and the New York Vocal Arts Ensemble, maintains an extensive early music, chamber music, and opera career throughout the U.S.

Susan Tapert (PhD) is program director of the Substance Abuse/Mental Illness program at the San Diego VA Healthcare System and author of a well-known study comparing brain scans of 15-year-old nondrinkers to 15-year-old heavy drinkers.

Julia Taylor (MA, National Fine Arts Academy, Ukraine; MFA, UW-Madison) is trained in classic and contemporary graphic arts. She has taught drawing, printing, and design internationally and at UW-Madison and she exhibits internationally.

Scott Teeple is associate professor of music at UW-Madison, where he also conducts the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band. He has won numerous honors and awards and is an active clinician throughout the U.S.

Tempesta di Mare received the 2007 NEA Artistic Excellence Award. The group is led by Gwyn Roberts (recorder) and Richard Stone (lute), with Emlyn Ngai (violin), Rebecca Humphrey (baroque cello), and Adam Pearl (harpsichord).

William H Tishler is emeritus professor of landscape architecture and an award-winning author who recently published Door County’s Emerald Treasure: A History of Peninsula State Park.

Vivian Tomlinson trained at the Univ. of Cape Town Ballet School, South Africa, before he became a principal dancer with the Wisconsin Ballet Company.

V

Marc Vallon, assistant professor of bassoon at UW-Madison, earned premier prix at the Paris Conservatory. He has taught bassoon at the Paris and Lyon conservatories and gives master classes worldwide.

Hagit Vardi is Feldenkrais practitioner at the UW Hospital’s Integrative Medicine Clinic. Certified by the Feldenkrais Guild of North America, she has completed mastery programs in the Anat Baniel Methods.

Uri Vardi, professor of cello at UW-Madison, has performed as a recitalist, soloist, and chamber player across the Americas, Europe, and his native Israel. He teaches and conducts master classes around the world, and is a certified Feldenkrais practitioner.

Marion Verbruggen, considered one of the world’s finest recorder virtuosos, performs and records extensively. She guest teaches at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and gives master classes and workshops worldwide.

W

Art Walaszek (MD) is a faculty member with the UW School of Medicine and has extensive clinical experience working with older adults at the Madison VA Hospital.

David Werther (PhD, philosophy, UW-Madison) is a philosophy instructor and faculty associate in the Dept. of Liberal Studies and the Arts.

Douglas Whittle directs educational travel for the Dept. of Liberal Studies and the Arts. He taught for 12 years as a professor of fine arts at Converse College in South Carolina.

Janet Wood (MA, UW-Madison) is an experienced instructor of Italian for adults and a lifelong Italophile who has lived, studied, and traveled throughout Italy.

Y

Laurel Yourke (PhD), author of Take Your Characters to Dinner and Waiting for Beethoven, has received a Council of Wisconsin Writers Award and the UW-Madison Award for Teaching Excellence.

Z

Britt Zeidler (MA in French literature, Univ. of Calgary), a native French speaker, is a lecturer in French in the Division of Continuing Studies and has studied and worked abroad.
