Jane Adams (PhD) has spent over two decades researching and reporting how Americans live, work, love, and respond to social change. The author of eight nonfiction books and three novels, she is the family-relationship consultant for the Family Business Institute.

Celeste Anton designs Web sites and coordinates Internet marketing efforts for the UW-Madison Division of Continuing Studies, small businesses, and nonprofit organizations.

Emily Auerbach is a UW-Madison English professor who has won teaching, broadcasting, and arts awards. She’s the author of Searching for Jane Austen.

B

Melinda Bailey (PhD, Univ. of Indiana) is a licensed psychologist and an experienced, highly regarded presenter and teacher. She formerly coordinated psychological services at Beloit College and is now in private practice in Madison.

Andrew Balkin (MFA, UW-Madison), a nationally recognized master-printer and artist, has taught etching for more than 25 years. He published Wisconsin Sesquicentennial Portfolio and his work appears at the National Museum of Art—Smithsonian Institution and elsewhere.

John W. Barker, UW-Madison professor emeritus of history, is an expert and popular lecturer on opera and early music. He hosts WORT-FM’s “Musica Antiqua”, created the UW Opera “Prompter,” and is a reviewer for American Record Guide.

Chuck Bauer (MA, UW-Madison) has painted for many years and especially enjoys the challenges of painting outdoors. His landscapes and other paintings are represented in galleries in Wisconsin and Texas.

Jim Baughman has taught at UW-Madison for 30 years and has directed the School of Journalism since 2003. He’s been awarded the Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award and the Alumni Association’s Ken and Linda Ciriacks Outreach Excellence Award.

Robert Birmingham is an archaeologist and author who teaches at UW-Waukesha. He recently led a study-abroad course in Egypt.

Marilyn Bonjean (EdD) has more than 20 years of clinical experience with older adults and is a nationally known speaker on psychotherapy with older adults.

Chelcy Bowles (PhD in music education) is director of continuing education in music at UW-Madison. An experienced classical and traditional Irish musician, she performs with Capitol Ceili Band.

Erika Bozinovski has studied and taught hip hop dance in the Madison area for the past eight years.

Kay Brathol-Hostvet (BFA, UW-Stout) is an enthusiastic art instructor bringing a wealth of experience to the classroom. Her landscapes are in numerous private and corporate collections throughout the Midwest.

Jack Bray is a certified Institute of Integral Qi’gong and Tai Chi instructor, a former Broadway dancer, and a national champion racewalker.

Nikki Busch (MLS, UW-Madison) is the UW-Madison grants librarian, the author of Finding Book Reviews in the Humanities and Social Sciences, and a member of the UW Campus Library User Education (CLUE) design team.

Scott Carter (PhD student in ethnomusicology, UW-Madison) is researching the ties between jazz and other aspects of American culture; he also performs in samba and gamelan groups.

Maria Pilar Casal (PhD candidate in Spanish) is a native Spanish speaker from Argentina. She has taught Spanish 102 and 203 and is now teaching Spanish 204 at UW-Madison. She is extremely dynamic and loves to communicate with her students.

Suzanna Waters Castillo (PhD) directs and teaches programs on aging and long-term care in the Division of Continuing Studies.

Sharad Chandarana (PhD, UW-Madison) teaches mathematics at UW-Madison and is the director of distance education program in mathematics and sciences.

Yuyen Chang (MFA in art metals, UW-Madison) has taught at UW-Madison and at community colleges. Her work has been exhibited nationally and is featured in Metalsmith magazine as well as many books on contemporary art jewelry.

Marshall J. Cook teaches writing for UW-Madison. His 26 published books include the Monona Quinn Mystery Series and the true crime book The Great Wisconsin Manhunt of 1961. He edits Creativity Connections: the writer’s quarterly encouragement.

Georgia Corner was a soloist with the Erick Hawkins Dance Company from 1996-2000. She is a founder of NYC-based The Wellspring Project, and has also danced with Douglas Dunn and Dancers, Dura Mater, Lise Brenner, and Beverly Brown.

D

Maggie Delaney-Potthoff performs throughout the U.S. and Europe with the highly acclaimed band Harmonious Wail. One of Madison’s finest jazz vocalists, she is also a private vocal coach and recording artist.

Sims Delaney-Potthoff studied with Jethro Burns and with Matt Glaser at Berklee College of Music. He sings, writes, and arranges for Harmonious Wail, which he founded in 1987. An award-winning composer, he has been named Madison’s Best Instrumentalist.

Arthur De Smet, professor of radiology at UW-Madison, is an avid photographer and frequent visitor to Great Britain.

Christine DeSmet, an award-winning writer of novels and screenplays, teaches fiction and screenwriting and mentors other novelists.

D. Francis Dieringer began ballroom dancing in college and hasn’t stopped since. He is a teacher and co-owner of the Art of Dance Studio in downtown Madison.

Tracy Doreen Dietzel is a popular performer and teacher of bodhran and a multimedia artist who teaches at Edgewood College. She hosts “Worldbook of Records” on WORT-FM.

Mary Diman (MFA, UW-Madison), a realist painter for the past 25 years, shows her work nationally and locally in invitational and juried exhibitions.

Stella Dobbins (MA, Univ. of Houston) is an artist and art historian who exhibits her artwork nationwide and is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society.

Bob Dott is UW-Madison professor emeritus of geology and coauthor of Roadside Geology of Wisconsin. He has given many public talks on the geology of the state.

James Draeger, an architectural historian, is the deputy state historic preservation officer at the Wisconsin Historical Society. He has been researching and speaking about Wisconsin architecture since 1987.

Daniel Dubovsky (MSW, LSW) is the fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) specialist for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration FASD Center for Excellence, where he provides training and technical assistance to individuals, families, programs, agencies, communities, and states.

Jane Esbensen has lived and taught in Härnsösand, Sweden, and worked as a translator and interpreter. She has a background in Scandinavian Studies and has taught Swedish for many years.

Leslie Esser-Reitano has performed and taught throughout the U.S. for more than 20 years. She inspires students as a private voice and drama coach and is cofounder and coproducer of Sycamore St. Ensemble, which connects theater to charitable causes.

F

John Fabke, one of southern Wisconsin’s finest traditional musicians, plays with several Madison bands, including the Cajun Strangers and the award-winning Nob Hill Boys. He also hosts the popular weekly folk/roots radio show “Pastures of Plenty” on WORT-FM.

Karen Fox Fischer, a graduate of the UW-Madison School of Music, teaches a variety of music courses and styles in the Madison area. A violinist and traditional Irish fiddler, she maintains a private studio in Madison.

Boris Frank is president of Boris Frank Associates, a Madison-based firm specializing in nonprofit organizations. He consults nationwide on fundraising, proposal writing, grants development, and nonprofit management and brings his comprehensive knowledge to the classroom.

Kathy Germann (MA) operates a consulting and training business that specializes in community building, conflict resolution, and cultural sensitivity.

Phil Glende is a doctoral candidate in the UW-Madison School of Journalism and Mass Communications. He has worked as a reporter and editor for several newspapers, including the Wisconsin State Journal.

Sage Goellner (PhD, UW-Madison) is a French instructor and faculty associate at UW-Madison.

Joseph Goveas (MD) is a geropsychiatrist and assistant professor in the Dept. of Psychiatry at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Katherine Grady (PhD) is a partner with Lansberg, Gersick and Associates, associate clinical professor at Yale University, and an executive coach with the Center for Creative Leadership.

Randolph L. Green (BA, UW-Madison) is a lifetime professional musician who has spent 20 years on the road and 20 more as a recording engineer and producer of more than 300 albums at Randy’s Recording.

Vida Groman (MS) operates a therapy practice and a consulting business focusing on team building, communication skills, diversity, Perceptual Thinking Patterns, and working with groups and individuals.

Dineen Grow is an experienced teacher of Irish, founder and president of the Celtic Cultural Center of Madison, and primary organizer of the Madison “Deireadh Seachtaine.” She has also taught at the Milwaukee Irish Fest Summer School.

Heidi Hakseth, an Irish music and dance enthusiast, has taught Irish dances to adult students for more than 10 years.

Said Hannouchi, a native Arabic speaker with extensive teaching experience, is completing his masters in African languages and literatures at UW-Madison.

Mary Ann Harr has taught harp to all levels of players in the Madison area for 20 years. Principal harpist with Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, she performs with Madison Symphony Orchestra and Oakwood Chamber Players, as well as throughout the state.

Paul Harrison, development and communications manager for the Madison Community Health Center, has extensive experience in development and grant writing for nonprofit organizations.

Flo Hilliard (MS, Univ. of North Florida) is project manager of the Wisconsin Women’s Education Network on Addiction & Recovery at UW-Madison. She has worked in addiction treatment, prevention, and advocacy for nearly 20 years.

Edith Hines (DMA violin, UW-Madison) is a member of the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble SDG, and the Madison Bach Musicians. A baroque violin specialist, she is on staff with the Madison Early Music Festival.

Alice Honeywell has helped adults improve their writing for more than 20 years. She has worked at UW Press and the UW-Madison LaFollette School of Public Affairs and has written and edited for business, nonprofit, and public-sector organizations.

Timothy Howell (MD) is a geropsychiatrist and assistant professor of medicine at the UW Medical School. He has extensive clinical experience with older adults and is also on staff at the VA Hospital in Madison.

Chiwei (Jerry) Hui (DMA candidate, UW-Madison) has been an assistant with the Madison Early Music Festival since 2005 and has performed early music in the U.S. and Hong Kong. He is a conductor, choral director, and award-winning composer.

I

Mary Ann Inman (BFA, UW-Whitewater) is a member of the Midwest Watercolor Society and is president of the Wisconsin Regional Artists Association. She has taught workshops in watercolor, matting, and framing.

J

Karen Jankowsky (PhD, Washington Univ.-St. Louis) studied in St. Louis, Tubingen, Berlin and Paris. She taught at Univ. of Washington-Seattle, Wayne State University, and UW-Madison and has contributed to many scholarly organizations, conferences, and publications.

Maureen Janson (MFA, Univ. of Michigan), a choreographer, movement specialist, and dancer, coordinates continuing education in dance and movement at UW-Madison. For more than 20 years she has presented award-winning choreographic work coast-to-coast and internationally.

Denise Jess is an educational consultant who specializes in community building, conflict transformation, diversity, multicultural education, curriculum and program writing and design, and media literacy.

David Johnson is executive director of Family Service in Madison. He’s worked in human services for more than 35 years, primarily in executive leadership positions, and is a respected and experienced online instructor.

Hugh Johnston (MD), a clinical professor of psychiatry with the UW-Madison School of Medicine and an author, also teaches for the Dept. of Psychiatry and the Dept. of Educational Psychology.

Maya Kadakia recently returned to the U.S. after spending a year studying traditional dance in Guinea and Mali, West Africa. She is excited to share her new material and her love of African dance with the Madison community.

Mi Ok Kang (PhD candidate in curriculum and instruction, UW-Madison) is a native Korean with 16 years’ experience teaching Korean from elementary through adult levels. She loves communicating with her students.

Michael Kienitz is an internationally known freelance photographer and a digital-imaging trainer and consultant who works with publications around the country. His photographs have appeared in Time, Newsweek, the New York Times and U.S. News and World Report.

Jeff Kirsch (PhD, UW-Madison) has taught at Tulane University and UW-Madison. He has authored three published novels, many Independent Learning courses in Spanish and Portuguese, and the textbook Spanish for Reading Knowledge.

Madge Hildebrandt Klais is an assistant professor in the School of Library and Information Studies at UW-Madison.

Helen Klebesadel (MFA, UW-Madison) has taught university and independent courses and workshops on creativity and studio art for two decades. Known for richly detailed watercolors, she uses mixed-media collage as a part of her creative process.

Laura Komai co-owns Anthology, a Madison store selling works by local artists, artisan supplies, and fine papers. She works in fiber, paper, and photographs.

Jeremy Kraemer (BFA,Columbia College of Art and Design) studied painting and drawing at West High School, MATC, the American Academy of Art, and the Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Art.

Betsy Kuhns (MA, French education) is an experienced French instructor who has taught at the high school and college levels. She has lived and worked in Brittany, France.

Steve Kurr (MM in musicology, UW-Madison) has been teaching continuing education music courses for over a decade. He is principal violist for the Beloit-Janesville Symphony Orchestra and teaches orchestra and music history at Middleton High School.

Nancy Dunn Kurr (BA in viola performance, UW-Madison), principal violist in the Edgewood Chamber Symphony and an active chamber musician in the Madison area, has been teaching string students of all ages for almost 20 years.

Jonathan Kuuskoski (MM candidate in piano performance and pedagogy, UW-Madison) has taught students of all ages and ability levels. As concert pianist, he has performed in the U.S., the Czech Republic, Cyprus, and New Zealand.

Tom Linfield is a founding member of the cooperative artsTRIBE and a chair of Madison Area Open Art Studios. He’s also vice president of grant making and community initiatives at the Madison Community Foundation, and has raised funds from many sources.

Joshua Ludke (art education degree, UW-Madison; art therapy degree, UW-Superior) draws, paints and makes prints and is a substitute teacher for the Madison Metro

Nancy Macgregor (BFA, Layton School of Art, Milw.) worked in advertising art and television in Chicago, then opened her own art studio. She has taught drawing, watercolor, printma-king, and acrylics for MATC and MSCR, and has created art exhibitions for students and herself.

Mary Magray wrote Transforming Power of the Nuns, the groundbreaking story of modern women’s religious communities in Ireland. She is working on a series of novels on the seventh-century English abbess Hilda of Whitby.

Frank Martinelli has more than 36 years’ experience training and consulting with nonprofit and public-sector organizations. President of the Center for Public Skills Training, he specializes in strategic planning, board development, and other issues.

Susan Masino, a rock journalist since 1977, has published three books, created and hosted the JJO Local Stage radio show from 1997-2004, and produced eight local compilation CDs. She appears in the Van Halen DVD, The Early Years.

Jean Matos (MFA, UW-Madison) taught art for many years in Madison and in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She now runs her own alternative press, Low End Pubs.

Gerry Max (PhD) has taught business communication at Concordia College and persuasive writing and writing across the curriculum at Lakeland College. He writes on literature, history, and travel for individuals, institutions, corporations, news magazines, and journals.

Ron May is a licensed psychologist in private practice at the Psychology Center in Madison. His practice includes individual and couples therapy, men’s groups, and a variety of psychological assessments.

David Mays (MD, PhD) is the past forensic clinical director at the Mendota Mental Health Institute in Madison. He also serves on the clinical faculty at UW-Madison and the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Miranda McClenaghan (MFA in acting, MA in directing) is director of theatre education in the Division of Continuing Studies.

Annette Miller has worked as senior consultant for Occupational Health United and senior employee-assistance program consultant for St. Clare Hospital Occupational Health Services. She also has clinical and administrative experience in the chemical-dependency field.

Gregg Miller provides technical assistance, consultation, and training services to labor groups of various sizes as well as to employers and employees.

Ken Miller is a free-lance designer-illustrator and teaches desktop publishing for UW-Madison and in the private sector.

Joan Mills (MS, UW-Madison) is a dance specialist who has been named Wis. Dance Educator of the Year by the National Dance Association.

Ann L. Milne has worked in divorce mediation since 1972. Former executive director of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, she has conducted training programs across the U.S. and in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.

John Mix, a painter and sculptor for more than 20 years, currently focuses on landscape and portrait in oil and pastel. A certified Atira Process teacher, he also leads workshops on the creative process.

Bruce Moffat is executive director of Wisconsin Community Fund in Madison. Previously he was director of development at the UW Foundation, where he raised funds for environmental units on the UW-Madison campus. He also consults with nonprofit organizations.

Anna Moisiadis (MFA, UW-Madison) believes the skills that can be acquired through art are not just technical. “I have seen first-hand how creating a safe, but critical space to explore art can have an effect on students.”

Robert Newton, a Celtic instrumentalist and music scholar, performs on various instruments. He currently performs with the Madison-based Celtic ensembles West Wind and Public House Ceili Band.

Bill Niederberger, Swiss accordionist, studied with Rudy Burkhalter and Betty Kneubuehl Vetterli. He currently performs at Turner Hall Rathskeller in Monroe.

Antonio Noguera (PhD in Spanish, UW-Madison) is from Madrid, where he managed his own company for many years. He has taught language and culture courses at UW-Madison, Edgewood College, and Minnesota State University.

Joanne Norton (doctorate in organizational leadership, Pepperdine Univ.) has worked with multigenerational family businesses for over a decade. She founded the family business dynamics course at Cal. State Univ.–Fullerton, where she served as an adjunct professor for seven years.

Paul Novak (PhD, UW-Madison) has studied yoga and hard and soft martial arts for many years.

Lynne Rothermel Novotnak (MA, dance/movement therapy) facilitates dance improvisation for people with a wide range of abilities and teaches an experimental approach to art.

O

Donna Peckett, (BA in art history)producing artistic director of TAPIT/new works, is a tap dancer, actor, educator, award-winning choreographer, and specialist in creative dance and drama for young children.

Robin Peery (PhD candidate in Spanish and Portuguese, UW-Madison) has taught French, Portuguese, and Spanish at various levels and has studied in Montréal, Lisbon, and Rio de Janeiro. He also speaks Italian, has studied Greek and Serbo-Croatian, and is learning Hebrew.

Kim Petersen (MD) is a geriatrician and president of Elder Advocates, Inc. With his wife, Gail, he serves as a consultant and trainer across the country.

Gary Schoener, of the Walk In Counseling Center in Minneapolis, is a nationally known trainer in ethics and boundaries.

Vivian Tomlinson trained at the Univ. of Cape Town Ballet School, South Africa, before he became a principal dancer with the Wisconsin Ballet Company.

Manuel Garcia Vazquez worked for nine years in his native Spain as a banker and a freelance translator. He’s been teaching Spanish for UW-Madison’s Division of Continuing Studies since moving to Madison in 2008.

Manuel Vellón nació en Villa Palmeras, Santurce, Puerto Rico, de donde vienen la mayoria de los grandes percucionistas salseros. A tocado con varios grupos. Tambien junto a Roberto Rengel fundó el Grupo Candela de Madison. Sus instrumentos de percusión son el timbale, bongo, congas, etc.

Gil Voss, tuba, has totaled 52 years in the polka band business. He performs all over southern and central Wisconsin with a Dutch-style polka group called Buttons & Banjo. Until his retirement he served as principal of Oregon High School.

Nancy Welch (BA, Colorado State Univ.) owned and managed a graphic design firm for 28 years and continues to explore the playful side of art.

David Werther (PhD, philosophy, UW-Madison) is a philosophy instructor and faculty associate in the Dept. of Liberal Studies and the Arts.

Douglas Whittle directs educational travel for the Dept. of Liberal Studies and the Arts. He taught for 12 years as a professor of fine arts at Converse College, SC.

Hank Whipple serves on the Wisconsin Historical Society’s board of curators and is active in the Society’s maritime preservation and archaeology program. He lectures and writes on Great Lakes history and other maritime topics.

Paul R. White has more than 30 years of clinical experience as a child therapist. He offers simple yet effective techniques for therapists to add to their treatment toolboxes.

Joseph Wiesenfarth is professor emeritus of English at UW-Madison. An award-winning teacher, he helped to found the Jane Austen Society of North America and has published seven books on English and American novelists.

Janet Wood (MA, UW-Madison) is an experienced instructor of Italian for adults and a lifelong Italophile who has lived, studied, and traveled throughout Italy.

Laurel Yourke (PhD), author of Take Your Characters to Dinner and Waiting for Beethoven, has received a Council of Wisconsin Writers Award and the UW-Madison Award for Teaching Excellence and has been nominated for two Pushcart Prizes in poetry.
