Case Management Certificate

A comprehensive approach to continuing education in case management is here. Based on the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Standards for Social Work Case Management, two Case Management Certificates—Introduction to Case Management and Advanced Case Management— have been developed by Suzanna Waters Castillo. As a participant you earn up to 45 hours of continuing education, enjoy one-on-one professional consultation, and receive current articles and an up-to-date bibliography on case management. Mental Health and Older Adult Certificate Program

The Dept. of Professional Development and Applied Studies announces a new certificate program in Mental Health and the Older Adult. The program begins with the first Summer Institute on Mental Disorders and the Older Adult, July 30-31. Then starting this fall, we’ll offer a wide range of seminars on such topics as anxiety and depression in later life, effective psychotherapy for older adults, creativity and dementia, and many others. To complete the certificate, participants must attend the institute and complete any six seminars in the next two years. Care that matters: providing person-centered dementia care

This program presents the latest insights and skills on person-centered dementia care to health and human-service workers who work with the elderly and their families.

NEW Summer Institute on Mental Disorders and the Older Adult

This summer institute for professionals who work with older adults is the first in a series of programs in the new Certificate in Mental Health and the Older Adult. The certificate is designed to satisfy an important training need. Future workshops include Treating Anxiety Disorders in the Elderly, Late-Life Depression, Personality Disorders, and Alcohol and Drug Problems, among others.

Summer Institute Session 1: Understanding and assessing the dementias
Dementia is a challenging and complex set of disorders most common in late life. Learn effective screening processes and understand the distinctive pathological characteristics of the various types of dementia to ensure compassionate care. A person-centered approach to assessment is be incorporated into this training.

Summer Institute Session 2: Understanding and assessing late-life mental disorders
Quality mental health care of older adults rests on professionals who have a fundamental understanding of the unique complexities of late-life mental disorders and the compassion to provide care. Learn about assessment approaches that help you better understand the characteristics of a major depressive disorder, dysthymia, anxiety disorders, sleep disorders, and other conditions.
