Case Management CertificateA comprehensive approach to continuing education in case management is here. Based on the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Standards for Social Work Case Management, two Case Management Certificates—Introduction to Case Management and Advanced Case Management— have been developed by Suzanna Waters Castillo. As a participant you earn up to 45 hours of continuing education, enjoy one-on-one professional consultation, and receive current articles and an up-to-date bibliography on case management. Mental Health and Older Adult Certificate ProgramThe Dept. of Professional Development and Applied Studies announces a new certificate program in Mental Health and the Older Adult. The program begins with the first Summer Institute on Mental Disorders and the Older Adult, July 30-31. Then starting this fall, we’ll offer a wide range of seminars on such topics as anxiety and depression in later life, effective psychotherapy for older adults, creativity and dementia, and many others. To complete the certificate, participants must attend the institute and complete any six seminars in the next two years. Instructor: Suzanna Waters Castillo Essential care: improving medication management for older adultsThis seminar—designed for health and human-service providers, including nurses, social workers, case managers, and psychologists—presents the latest findings about improving medical management for older adults. Instructor: Robert Breslow Health and psychosocial changes in agingThis session focuses on health issues related to aging and also on psychosocial phenomena. Understanding these aspects of aging will facilitate quality care for patients and clients. Instructor: Suzanna Waters Castillo NEW Summer Institute on Mental Disorders and the Older AdultThis summer institute for professionals who work with older adults is the first in a series of programs in the new Certificate in Mental Health and the Older Adult. The certificate is designed to satisfy an important training need. Future workshops include Treating Anxiety Disorders in the Elderly, Late-Life Depression, Personality Disorders, and Alcohol and Drug Problems, among others.
