Bioinformatics is the application of computer science theory and methods to molecular biology. The Capstone Certificate in Bioinformatics is intended for UW-Madison postdoctoral fellows, faculty and staff, and employees of Madison area companies working in molecular biology who are interested in bioinformatics training. The program provides formal training in the use and application of bioinformatics methods to solve problems in molecular biology. The goal is to give students enough basic knowledge to continue their own research and to collaborate effectively with computer scientists specializing in bioinformatics methods.

Participation is open to applicants with at least a bachelor's degree, other than registered graduate students. Students should be able to complete the program in two years.

Admission

Students may apply for the Capstone Certificate in Bioinformatics and the Capstone Certificate in Fundamentals of Clinical Research through the Division of Continuing Studies' Special and Guest Student online application. Application materials will be automatically sent to the Admissions Committee in the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics.
