Washington, DC
Come with UW-Madison as we visit our nation's capitol for a weekend of music, art, theatre, opera, and history!
Our program includes an evening of classical music at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts with the National Symphony Orchestra performing the Piano Concerto #4 by Ludwig van Beethoven, and Symphony #5 by the Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich; a private guided tour of the special exhibit “Homer, Eakins and Bellows: American Paintings, 1870-1925,” at the National Gallery of Art; William Congreve’s comedy The Way of the World at The Shakespeare Theater Company; an elegant night with the Washington National Opera and their production of The Pearl Fishers by George Bizet; and a guided tour of one of our nation’s most important monuments: The Civil War Battlefield at Gettysburg.
Of course, since there is so much to do in Washington, DC, and everyone has different interests, there is ample free time during the weekend. Thursday afternoon, Friday afternoon andall day Saturday are unscheduled so you can plan visits to those museums, monuments or institutions which hold a special interest for you.
Our hotel is One Washington Circle which has easy access to public transportation and all of the city’s sights, and is a quick stroll from Historic Georgetown, so this will be a wonderful weekend of structured activities and abundant free time in one of the world’s most interesting destinations.

Today we visit one of our nation's most important monuments: the Civil War Battlefield at Gettysburg. A full day of American history ends at the Reagan National Airport for our flight home.
General informationCosts: $1399 per person based on double occupancy; plus air. Price includes premier seating at all performances, lodging, guided visits and group transfers.
Airfare is not included in this package price. Upon receipt of your deposit our travel agent will contact you to make your flight arrangements, regardless of your point of origin. If you plan to make your own flight arrangements, you must contact us first to confirm space and package availability.
As with all of our trips, you may choose to extend your stay in Washington, DC. Please let us know if we can assist you in your plans to stay beyond our travel dates. Please join us for a wonderful weekend!

Doug Whittle is entering his 4th year as UW-Madison's Director of Educational Travel after a decade as a fine arts professor in South Carolina. He served in the Peace Corps in Zaire and has traveled independently in Asia, Europe, Central and North America.
