Your activities commence as soon as we arrive on Thursday with a 90-minute Double-Decker Bus Tour of the capitol’s highlights. This optional activity will help you orient yourself in regards to the many monuments and places to visit in DC, and should assist you in planning the free time you will have over the weekend. Then, after a restful afternoon, you travel with the group to the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and an evening concert with the National Symphony Orchestra as they present two of classical music’s most beautiful works: Schubert’s ‘unfinished’ Symphony No. 8 and Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B minor. On Friday morning you will join the group for a guided tour of the truly amazing examples of creative expression at the National Museum of African Art, and then the rest of the day is yours to spend exploring the institutions on the National Mall at your own pace. Later your group activities resume with an enlightening educational seminar about tonight’s play, William Shakespeare’s Henry V, performed by The Shakespeare Theatre Company.

Saturday is unscheduled so that you may visit those places in our capitol that are of particular importance to you, but in the morning you may also join us for an optional visit to the outstanding National Museum of the American Indian if you wish. Regardless of how you choose to spend your daylight hours, your evening unfolds in elegant fashion at the Washington National Opera for a performance of the quintessential American opera: Porgy and Bess; a genuine American masterpiece.

On Sunday we will turn your educational focus towards our nation’s military history with visits to Arlington National Cemetery; and the Civil War Battlefield at Manassas. At each location you will be taught by expert guides who will bring both of these places to light in a way that simply cannot be accomplished on your own, leaving you with a powerful appreciation of the cost of freedom, and lasting memories of our national history.

Please join us for what is sure to be a fun and memorable weekend of world class arts, culture, and American history education.
