Tell a friend about the Wisconsin Wrights New Play Project.
The Wisconsin Wrights New Play Development Project offers an incredible opportunity to Wisconsin playwrights as it focuses on the development of new works through extensive workshops and public readings.
Created in Fall 2006 through a partnership between the UW–Madison Division of Continuing Studies in Theatre, the UW–Madison University Theatre/Department of Theatre and Drama, the Madison Repertory Theatre, and Edenfred/Terry Family Foundation, Wisconsin Wrights fosters the development of new works by Wisconsin playwrights. Joining us as a producing partner in Fall 2007 was the Milwaukee Chamber Theatre. The first three years of Wisconsin Wrights were generously supported by the UW–Madison Anonymous Fund, the Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission, and the Madison Arts Commission.
Play submission will be accepted on a biannual basis with our next round opening in November 2011 for consideration for workshops in May 2012. Each of the three finalists will be awarded a one week residency at Edenfred (www.edenfred.org) in Madison, Wisconsin. The three plays will be featured as part of the University Theatre summer season with each receiving an intensive one week workshop (with a cast, dramaturg, and director) which culminates in a public reading.
In alternate years Wisconsin Wrights will support further development of work by past finalists and work to provide resources for playwrights to develop their craft.
