The newsletter workshop

In seven online lessons, you get practical, useful tips on how to write and design an effective newsletter. This is a great refresher for veteran editors and a perfect introduction for new editors and editors who don’t have journalism training. Each lesson is compact and clearly written.

The lessons cover:

  1. Writing and trimming your copy
  2. Writing great headlines
  3. Creating compelling leads
  4. Getting and keeping contributing writers
  5. Getting and conducting effective interviews
  6. Understanding basics of copyright law for the newsletter editor
  7. Mastering basics of newsletter design

This is an e-mail based course. You receive lessons and interact with the instructor one-on-one via e-mail. You can work at your own pace and take up to one year to finish.

Your instructor:

Marshall Cook is a professor, freelance writer, and nonfiction book and novel author.

He has published hundreds of articles in national and international magazines and has authored 20 non-fiction books (including Freeing Your Creativity from Writer's Digest Books) and three novels. He also edits Creativity Connection, a newsletter for writers and independent publishers.

As a professor for the University of Wisconsin—Madison, he teaches workshops, classes, and online courses on writing and publishing.

Costs:

With your basic fee of $135, you’ll have an opportunity to respond to optional feedback questions and exercises with each lesson. For the advanced fee of $175, you can also fax, email, or mail a copy of your newsletter to the coach for a thorough written critique. You will earn 0.7 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), (1.0 CEUs if you sign up for the critique option) when you complete this online writing course.
