Design your own course around a music theory topic of your choice. You may want to create a general course that covers the fundamentals of music theory, or a course that addresses a specific concept. Your course could include music theory topics such as fundamentals, counterpoint, part writing, chords, harmony, melody, and others.
Work at your own pace and take up to a year to finish.
Have a mentor guide you through your self-designed course! Friendly music teacher provides advice, exercises, recommendations for materials, and critiques. Before signing up, you must contact instructor Dr. Jamie Henke at jhenke@dcs.wisc.edu or 608-263-6822. Share your ideas and we'll discuss a possible course outline together.
Regarding credits: Anyone who would like to earn 3.0 university credits by taking the online version of UW-Madison Music 351, "Basic Concepts of Music Theory," may contact Dr. Henke to request more information. Please specify that you are interested in Credit Outreach Music 351.

Jamie Henke, Faculty Associate in Music at UW-Madison, teaches music theory for non-music majors in the School of Music, and distance education courses on related topics. A pianist and vocalist, she holds a Ph.D. in music theory.
Registration is $175. Work at your own pace and take up to a year to finish.You will earn 3.0 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) when you complete the course. Register any time.
