Foreign language programs

  • Madison Area Classes - Foreign language and culture classes are offered year round. Adult outreach programs include Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Irish, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, and Spanish. Our language courses include language and conversation courses from beginner through advanced levels and reading knowledge classes and exams.

  • Independent Learning - Courses in several languages allow you to earn credit at your own pace and convenience, and in the comfort of your own home!

  • Online Language Classes - Spanish and French classes taught online allow you the flexibility of learning from home at your own pace.

  • Reading knowledge exams - Our department administers this exam for graduate students in the areas of French, German, and Spanish.

  • Children's Classes
    • We offer classes each semester for children aged 4 to 10 to study Spanish and Chinese. You will find current descriptions of all upcoming language classes for children in the UW-Madison Continuing Studies catalog.
    • French Camp is a fun way to improve French language skills and make new friends for children 4-15 years of age.

  • Foreign Language for Business - Learn to communicate effectively in professional situations through our online programs. In addition to the self-paced courses "Doing Business in the Latino World" and "Business French-Intermediate" we offer a business Spanish certificate program.
