Issues/Activities for 2006-07

Election Process:
A call for nominations went out in June; candidates volunteered and were appointed due to lack of competition. New members include: Annette McDaniel, Sarah Marty, and Doug Whittle.

Communication Within the Division:
The CASI followed up on the goal to involve division academic staff in the selection process for a new Dean. Alan Ng did some research and learned from the Academic Staff Executive Council that it is common practice at UW-Madison for any unit's CASI to be given time to meet with finalists for positions at the Dean’s level.

A survey of division academic staff was crafted by CASI members and sent out in late March soliciting feedback on qualities of the new Dean. The results were compiled and shared with the Search and Screen Committee.

In June Alan wrote to David Musolf requesting information about participating in the process. David responded with dates and times for meetings with candidates. The CASI group met with each candidate for 1.5 hours in late July, and asked each candidate a set of predetermined questions based on key issues that came out of the March survey.

A follow-up survey of division academic staff was sent in mid-July to solicit comments on the finalists, based on attendance at their group presentations or on reviews of their resumes/vitas.

After the meetings, and after the survey data were collected, CASI members’ candidate recommendations and the July survey results were sent via e-mail to David Musolf.

Key Staff Changes:
Dean Howard Martin retired in September 2007; Heidi Zoerb left Marketing and Communications for CALS in June; Associate Dean Reggie Gauger retired in October 2007.
