CASI Minutes

November 2006

Present: Katy Duren, Miranda McClenaghan, Martin Rouse, Christina Finet, Antonio Noguera, Alan Ng

  • General business:

Miranda requested we choose a new chair for CASI. Martin volunteered. There were no department or unit updates provided today.

    Discussion items:

    Academic Staff Awards
Katy said that an e-mail will go out to the division from Howard announcing that CASI will act as coordinating body for academic staff award nominations (http://acstaff.wisc.edu/awards.html) within the division. Our role will be to receive nomination materials from our colleagues, make a list of those nominated for DCS, and pass the nomination materials along to the appropriate campus office by the deadline.

Alan noted winners raise the profile of the division across campus; we noted a feature of some awards is that recipients receive $$, a benefit is they can use the money for professional development or to support a department/division goal.

Action items: Alan will research the history of DCS nominations and see if we can find out who’s won awards in the past.

Katy also will ask the IT staff to update the CASI e-mail list (DONE!) but we agreed nomination materials could come to one person (Miranda).

    Employee information
Christina noted that some staff members had expressed an interest in a division process for orienting new employees, but were also themselves interested in learning more about division staff and services, as well as personnel policies and procedures. We discussed where such information might already be available, the difficulties in gathering information or sharing it, and the need for it (yes).

Action items: CASI members will review the division Web portal and see what kinds of information is currently available. We will also look at other campus sites to see how some schools or departments are centralizing campus policy and benefit information for their employees.

    Status of Howard’s position
To date the job description has not been posted. The Provost’s office apparently is gathering additional information. There was some discussion about rumors and concerns. We also discussed how to offer further input to the process. No action items resulted.

    ASEC/CASI brown bag
We were asked to choose someone to attend the brown bag on Friday, 11:45-1 pm in Union South and Alan won the vote. We also need to provide a short (less than a page) update on what our CASI issues have been in the past year.

Action item: Martin will summarize from previous minutes and provide the report.

    Meeting adjourned at 12:05 pm

Next Meeting 11:00 am Wednesday, December 6 at 1305 Linden Dr.
