Feb 2006
Present: Katy Duren, Christina Finet, Martin Rouse, Miranda McClenaghan
- Department Updates
- LSA: Sarah Marty will be joining their staff 2/6/06 in a 75% School of the Arts position. They are very happy to have her on board.
- Dean’s Office: Roger has left and we will all miss him; DCS has been awarded an OSHER grant (50K!!!) to help returning undergraduate adult students complete degrees at UW-Madison. If we do well with this grant money, we may be eligible to receive a one million dollar endowment to expand the program. Katy, Heidi, Mary Quass, and Wendy and others are working to streamline the grant application process for this new grant and other grants offered by the division. Further details forthcoming; Katy passed out a document with details about the new Academic Advisory Council. Everyone is invited to participate in this new Council to discus ideas; Katy is working on planning the April 2006 Divisional Meeting.
- Business Plan Update
- No change since last meeting. It was suggested that the April Divisional Meeting would offer a good opportunity to examine the progress that has been made on the plan.
- CASI Web Pages
- We agreed that these pages--thanks to Christina--were in good shape and that we can now tell all academic staff in the division that there is a CASI web site.
- Update union and professional development links
- Martin is (still) working on arranging a brownbag meeting with UFAS and ASPRO. ASPRO is definitely interested in participating in an informational brown bag although perhaps not with UFAS; UFAS is willing to participate but is also hesitant to participate with ASPRO. We may need to schedule two brown bags (two weeks apart, not on a Friday) in the latter part of February. He’ll send out an e-mail soon.
- Action Items
- Miranda will work to organize Brown Bag session to discuss credit fees, changes, and how special groups are handled. (probably in late March)
- All CASI members will discuss in their respective staff meetings the Division’s policy on allowing DCS employees to attend DCS non-credit courses (with the consent of the instructor, and only if there is room)
- Miranda will follow up on some feedback from LSA regarding whether the notification of job status review made it into the LSA review process.
- Additional business
- No additional business
