April 2007
Present: Antonio, Alan, Miranda, Christina
Sick Leave Reporting
Reviewed attachment from ASEC. Miranda edited our text which we will
e-mail to all DCS staff to ask for the requested feedback on the
ASEC-drafted policy. We'd like to send this from a CASI e-mail address,
and have replies browsable in a shared DCS e-mail folder.
Action item: Miranda will look into technical details of how CASI will
e-mail request for comments by May 4. All CASI members should review all
the feedback e-mails at that point. Alan will forward collected feedback
to Colleen McCabe on May 8.
College Bargaining Matters
Miranda reported on Assembly discussion: Most of the time staff want to
bargain as a unit with faculty. Antonio: is curious about impact of
union in DCS, especially knowing that unions in US are very different
than the powerful unions in Spain. We observed that attendance of
Martin's brownbags about the union/lobbying groups last year was very
low. The committee was unanimous in being unclear about which position
on this issue would be in our best interest in the long run.
Dean Replacement Search
Alan reported on ASEC-CASI brownbag, summarized that we need to get
ourselves involved in the interview process. Read Gilgen (chair of ASEC)
said that it's common practice for CASIs to be given a time slot to talk
with each candidate (separate from the search committee), and then
deliver their feedback directly to provost (i.e., whoever makes the
final selection for the position) prior to final selection. Med School
CASI has detailed documents detailing their involvement in recent hiring
of the new dean of Med School. DoIT CASI is also currently involved in
selection of new UW-Madison CIO.
Action item: Alan drafts copy of e-mail to provost asking how to get CASI involved.
CC: CASI. Report back at May 2 meeting.
