CASI Minutes

April 2006

Present: Katy Duren, Miranda McClenaghan, Martin Rouse, Christina Finet, Antonio Noguera, Moira Kelley

  • Department Updates:

PIO – name change to Marketing and Communication (MAC) will happen soon; DCS portal(intranet) has been launched.

ASSC – Returning Adult Student Awards/Scholarship reception was March 31 and well attended.  The paper timetable is no longer being published.  MyUW will be revised this summer.  Summer enrollment for special students began April 3.

LSA – New program assistant for Music programs just started.  Academic staff review process just finished.

    Update on Union brown bags:

UFAS brown bag was poorly attended.  ASPRO brown bag was better attended but still sparse.  We discussed frustration in planning brown bags and arranging for speakers who have to take the time to come talk with us but then sessions are lightly attended.  Maybe brown bag lunches are not the best format.  Moira will talk with Al Abramson about the possibility of setting up a discussion/chat for these issues on the DCS portal.

    Academic Staff Assembly update:

Miranda reported on the March 20 meeting.  There was a presentation about the Taxpayer Protection Amendment (basically TABOR in disguise) and how, if passed, it will have long-term detrimental affects.  Also at the March 20 meeting, Engineering CASI did a presentation which was a call to action regarding several issues for the assembly from the CoE CASI.

CASI opportunity to identify academic staff for award/acknowledgment:

Katy reported that Howard asked if CASI wanted to play a role in putting together nominations for campus awards.  Katy will put together a list of possible awards with deadlines for next meeting and we will then explore the possibility and just what the CASI’s role would be.

    Division meeting update:

We discussed good turnout at the meeting.

    Meeting adjourned at 12:05 pm

Next Meeting 11: 00 am Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Lowell
